Dah seee
I've done well through the ice on medium shiners. If you are casting metals gold kastmaster in 3/4-1 oz will do. One of my favorite pattern is a fire tiger color. Will be tough to get broodstock this time of the year as most of them are retired breeders and don't holdover well. They either don't make it through the summer or just too beat up. You are better off catching browns though.

Dah seee
Head out to Western MA if you want brute browns. Years ago I caught a 5lb brown through the ice at Baddacook Pond in Groton. Live bait is your best bet early morning and at night. Every now and then I would hear Walden Pond produce some big browns but mostly through the ice.
