Writing letters is hard

I'm trying to write a professional letter here and I have to say the internet has really spoiled me. On here, if someone doesn't quite understand, I can quickly make a follow up post to clarify something I said or I can go back and edit my post if something is confusing. Even email allows you some wiggle room.

This letter is a one shot deal. Go for broke. I either hit a home run or I'm out on my ass. Really makes you choose your words carefully.

Professional letters do suck, I agree.
But I actually love writing and mailing actual letters.
It's such a dying art.

It's a shame you younger people know nothing other than the internet. Writing a letter isn't hard if it's all you've known. You're right Pat, it does make you choose your words carefully. Texting and message boards make people lazy (I have to include myself to an extent, although I do write old fashioned letters now and then) when it comes to writing. There's also an insincerity to it. I hate a "thank you" email for some reason.
Good luck with your letter Patrick.

I grew up before the internet. It's just that it's taken over in so many ways.

Oh, Grow up. Just find one on the internet then cut and paste it (don't forget to change the parts that say xyz_Company and Your_name_here) icon14.gif

Patrick: " Writing letters is hard. "

RiverRaider : " ... it can be difficult ".

And there it is.
Picking the correct word can drive you crazy.

Good luck.

A suggestion:

Pick up a copy of the very brief grammar book, " The Elements of Style " by Strunk and White.
An amazingly helpful guide.

Carefully choosing my words have been ingrained in me over the years... sometimes I get called to account for something I put in writing frown.gif

The right word is the difference between a lightning bug and the lightning.

( esp true in phone convos where you haven't ever met the party at the other end.)
