WARNING! Counterfeit Lifeproof cases

Thread Starter
I bought a Lifeproof case from Wholesale Factory back in December. Due to some quality issues (camera shield delamination & another area of delam near the charging port), I filed a warranty claim with Lifeproof with my SN#. Their nine form asked for 2 SNs, one for each half of the case. I saw that my cases had 2 stickers with the same exact SN on each:

R2A20120798

Here is their response:

"Unfortunately, I have to inform you that the serial numbers you have provided belong to a counterfeit or fake case. Genuine LifeProof cases have two serial numbers inside that are unique to that case only. Our serial numbers are never repeated. We have received quite a few inquiries from customers with these exact serial numbers, which verifies that this case is a counterfeit.

Due to this ill-fated situation, we are unable to offer any warranty assistance. Without a genuine LifeProof case, there is no genuine LifeProof warranty. I apologize that you are experiencing this situation, but I would still like to assist you!

We ask that you contact the original seller of your product and request a refund. If at all possible, leave feedback with your seller and post a review, informing any other potential customers of your experience. This will ensure that the amount of counterfeit LifeProof products sold decreases and avoids additional purchases of simulated cases by other innocent customers. I hope this clarifies and answers any questions you may have regarding our inability to offer a replacement at this time.

We are doing all that we can to cease the sale of counterfeit products and your help is greatly appreciated! Please go to http://www.lifeproof.com/en/fake-lifeproof-case/report-counterfeit-lifeproof-cases to report the place of purchase and seller that you got your case from.

We are committed to providing you and all of our customers with the highest standards of service in the industry. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to call our “Customer Service Department” at 1-888-533-0735.

Thank you and have a great day!"

I am waiting to hear back from Wholesale Factory and will post an update. In the meantime, don't be fooled by a cheap sale price and check your current SN#s with Lifeproof!

Thanks for the warning and that's a bummer.  It could have been worse, maybe water getting at your phone.

I was in the Apple store not long ago getting some help with with my vintage Macbook and the girl sitting next to me was having issues with her new IPhone.   It turns out that she had bought a counterfeit IPhone.  She had purchased it from Best Buy.  The phone had fake serial numbers, and the metal sides of the phone were polished.  I don't know how that ended, but the last I heard she was on her way to Best Buy.

A counterfeit product sold at the wholesale factory? Imagine that...

Am I the only one who finds it strange (or ironic) that, after telling you they would still like to assist you, the folks at lifeproof go on to tell you how you can assist them?

I had a friend buy a case from an online retailer (begins with A) and due to a warranty issue he found it was a fake. In his case the retaiier refunded the purchase price. It would relly suck for someone if their phone was damaged.

Ha, that's exactly what I thought. Of course the guy's going back to ask for a refund but to suggest the feedback and telling them where they bought it is only to help them.

I picked up a fake Lifeproof case the other day for a Buy it Now price of 20 bucks.  I gave it an underwater test before I put the phone in; it is completely waterproof.  I still put it in my small waterproof pouch when I'm fishing, just for the convenience of hanging it around my neck and putting it into the front of whatever I'm fishing in.

After doing a quick search on th site, there are many scam complaints about the vendor. Lesson learned!

I got takin too. Amazon? Same thing, it has to have two different numbers. My kid bought it for me. It had all the right paperwork and box. I have the real thing now. looks the same?

Be careful, the difference is where the speaker is on top. On the bad ones its hard to hear on some. They tell you to blow into the hole to pressurize it. I wouldn't put it in the water if it cost $20.00
check the #s on the inside. You have to have two different numbers. good luck
