If whackos are doing the religious teaching, it's the religion to blame. It doesn't matter what scriptures John Jones based his Guayana mass suicide on, the fact is that what he was teaching and preaching and believing was responsible. The religion is to blame.

All questions are flawed, but only useful idiots would comment on how the question was written, and not answer it, typical Liberal Arts Democrat!

If anyone has killed one person it is as if he had killed the whole mankind (5:32)

Both books oppose killing, and then condone it in other parts.

The difference is Christians have, for the most part, adapted to the modern world, while hardcore Muslims are stuck in the Bronze age.

I will say that Muslims have a much more realistic view of who Jesus may have been. To them he was a prophet, not a cosmic man-god involved in some bizarre ritual sacrifice to atone for sins. They don't even believe he ever said he was the son of God. He is definitely a holy figure to them though, which is more than what most Christians think of Muhammad.

Yeah..... And you can talk all the trash you want about Christ and you won't get beheaded, but post a picture of Muhammad and you're put on an international hit list. There's nothing about Islam that I can give a thumbs-up to. If Christians want to believe Christ was son of God, why should you care? They aren't going to kill you because you don't believe. They might preach to you and thump their bible and tell you you're going to hell but you don't have to lose any sleep over any of that since you don't believe any of that.

What the scriptures say.... that's for the religion to sort out what's what and that's what they've done. The religion is responsible for the behavior it promotes or suppresses and the scriptures are just part of the religious landscape, but not the "religion", per se. Some take scriptures literally. Some don't. Some seem to make it up as they go along. The real proof of a religion is in what people preach, teach and believe.

Don't you love the way BT gets his little athiest weenie liberal shots in?

Oh and BTW, there are parts in the Old Testament which urge the death penalty for some sins. And, of course, the ancient Jews fought wars of conquest. Course, back then, even a small sin could cause huge repercussions. No welfare, etc. But admittedly, the ancient Isrealites were a pretty tough, intolerant bunch.

What you won't find and BT and his ilk ignore this, is any order to kill or go to war in the New Testament. Christ and his followers were about as pacifistic as you can get. Was Jesus the Son of God? Many believe he was/is. Maybe someone who would preach what he preached and willingly offered himself in sacrifice as he did, had a lot of God in him.

But as RW says, if you're truly an athiest, what do you care and why do you find it necessary to take cheap shots at other people's beliefs? Ego driven I think.

Where was this cheap shot?

Also, you might want to look at your own conduct towards those of other faiths (like atheism for example - you say it's the "default stupid position). You come across as VERY hypocritical.

Funny enough. I've found BT to be a solid contributor. He's informed and has an interesting point of view.

I don't take issue with him. If he named himself based on "big troll", that's his business. His sense of humor indicates to me that he very well may have. Not all trolls are worthless punks.
