Baitrunner Problem

Brand new reel (used 3 times) is stuck in the baitrunner gear only. The lever switch doesn't do a thing and the reel is in freespool mode.
Should I send it to Shimano or open it up and try to see what is jammed?
I don't really have much experience opening and servicing reels but it would be great if someone familiar with the reel can chime in with what may be a problem and if it's an easy fix.

Baitrunners are one of the most complex parts interior of any reel I have ever worked on , definitely not for the inexperienced reel fixer . Send it to Shimano they have a great reputation for their service group

Spot on. I opened the side plate once, and a spring smacked me in the face. I wrote a letter to shimano stating what happened and they fixed it. Turn around time wasn't to bad. Less than 2weeks. I think the cost was $25 plus shipping.

If that happened then there was something VERY wrong with the reel before you opened it.
