Mokes
They plan on closing the hub in Central MA. That's going to suck a lot and kill a lot of jobs for people. Go go economy! 35K jobs. Gone. Awesome. "The toothless, braindead, *********, geriatric mouthbreathers around here love their "safe space". It is the only place in the world where they feel like winners, the gracious thing to do, would be to let them enjoy their delusional reality." -Numbnuts

Gamakatsu
With email and electronic bill payments reducing the volume of mail, it is only logical to lay people off. This has nothing to do with the state of the economy and everything to do with ending the $5 billion losses the USPS has been incurring. Sad but necessary. Expect more government jobs to go away. It's the only sector of the economy that is still shedding jobs. I would think those who want a balanced budget would be applauding such layoffs. Joe G
They plan on closing the hub in Central MA. That's going to suck a lot and kill a lot of jobs for people. Go go economy! 35K jobs. Gone. Awesome. That's 35K jobs nationwide, not in central MA. Consolidating operations from Central and NW Mass to the Boston facility will probably add to it's roster of 1,300 employees. 25% decline in the volume of first class mail since 2006 contributed to these cost-cutting measures. DaveCap
I don't pretend to know about their logistics, but I got a kick out of the route my package just travelled by. I told the sender that maybe who ever creates the routes is a fisherman and wanted to do a trial run for the fall run. Started in Bound Brook to Kearny, to Rhode Island, to Long Island to Staten Island. I'm sure (actually I hope) there's a resonable explanation, but it still makes one scratch their head. Paul_M
All good reasons posted above, but they're also bogged down w tons of catalogs at 3rd class postage - which is a huge subsidy to mail order business. See you on the big one.

Gamakatsu
Grease your cornholes (no taxpayer funded Vaseline will be provided). This is just a taste of austerity when it comes. And you'll need to bring your own toilet paper when you go to a government building too. It's gonna be great!
