Daiwa Saltist VS Shimano Saragosa

Thread Starter
Looking to upgrade for next season. I work at BPS and have done plenty of research on both reels. So i know the basic specs. But I'm looking for personal experiences with both. If someone on here has used both which do you like better? or if you've only used one- what do you like/ not like so much abouth it. Thanks in advance guys.

I have owned both and I think the saragosa is a much better reel. Actually, I think the saragosa is the best reel on the market under 250 bucks for stripers and blues.

The saltiest has a cheap line roller bushing that many folks upgrade to a bearing. I found the retrieve to be too fast on the saltist but you may prefer it if you fish the canal a lot.

The saragosa has some great features like the titanium spool lip and hardened paladin main gear that the saltist does not have.

This is getting to be like the Van Staal VS. Zee Bass threads. I owned both and IMO the Gosas take the cake, I actually got the 8k and the 14k and love them both

good news is, cant imagine you'll be let down no matter which one you get....

I don't recommend the Saltist. I love my Stradic which I've used twice as long, and it's very similar to the 'gosa.

I've Got Saragosa 10000,Great Feel,Smooth Feeling,Have Had A couple Of Bails Closed Early,But that is the story of my Life!

Gosa wins hands down. I own both and used both heavily for bass season this year. The satlist fell apart, the drag was totally smoked and even after replacing the reel feels terrible. The Gosa (and my Spheros) are smooth as can be and keep on going.

I've had both and in my opinion the Saragosa wins hands down. The Saltist has some very good qualities, but overall the Saragosa has had fewer problems. I bought them both around the same time about a year and a half ago. I finally sold the Saltist and stayed with the Saragosa. Very simple to maintain as well. Much more so than the Saltist.

You can go with the bailess kit. I don't personally like the kit, but some folks do. The Saragosa is a very simple change to make into a manual only bail. The other thing to do is, if you pick up your line with the bail roller at 12:00 (closest to the rod), before casting rotate the bail roller to the 6:00 position. This places the trip mechanism right at the trip ramp and any rotor movement during the cast is generally not enough to trip the bail.

This seems to work its way into every thread regarding these two reels. I would love to be able to replace my Gosas with Stellas, but even with a troll discount that is not an option. In the $200-$300 price range the Gosas were a huge upgrade for me.
