Approximate cost for Trans/transfer case/differential fluid changes

Wondering if anyome has an approximate cost I should expect to pay to change the fluid and filter in the tranny, change the transfer case fluid and the front and rear differential fluids. It's a 2004 Trailblazer. Better off dealing with a local station or a transmission shop?

I would be careful doing a tranny flush. I did one on my 08 explorer with 60,000 miles on it and it wound up
killing the tranny. When they flushed it at the ford dealer it stirred up some old metal shaving and striped some of the gears. Thankfully i had an extended warrenty and they covered the rebuild otherwise i would of been out over 1800 bucks.

I would do the diffs and the transfer case definatley. A dealer usually runs anywhere from $200 to $350 depending on the price of the fluids. You can try just changing the trans fluid and filter first and see how that goes before the full flush.

A transmission flush does not change the filter.
It can be bad for the seals, and redistribute sediment.
Nothing wrong with CHANGING the fluid/filter, but I wouldn't flush.

Check your owner's manual, specify what fluids you want added.
Do it at your gas station, where you know them, and they know you.
Or do it in one of these "Jiffy-Lube" places, with a pit, instead of a lift.
(Where you can wait for your car.)
BRING YOUR OWN FILTER. (Auto Zone)

Likewise, transfer case, and differential(s). But no filters here.

MAKE SURE THAT YOU KNOW WHAT FLUIDS YOU WANT!
ATF, SYNTHETIC, 90W, .....you will have to tell them.

How much? All three, about $100. Maybe just under.

example my truck required 2 quarts of syn 75w140 in the diff 35$ plus mopar additive 10$ 9qts of atf+4, 5 more qts in the transfercase, 50$ less the transfercase, both filters for trans 45$ and i have to drop the pan on my trans to flush, + 2 cans of brake cleaner 10$ about 200$ in mats alone. i would advise against a jiffy lube aka iffy lube, and avoid trans flushes as stated above it will do more harm than good. also if u have over 100k on the trans fluid some shops wont touch it. mabe 400$ total parts and labor, rate i think is around 2 hours @95 per hr

I paid $400 and change to do my Jeep GC. Transaxles, transfer case and rear diff. This was done at 29K. Too soon to do transmission.

I got my 95 Tahoe changed for $470 at 106,000 miles. Mobil 1 oil change plus both differentials, transfer case, and a tranny flush (the 4th). I've been getting tranny flushes every 25-30K miles so I haven't had the problem of tranny sediment buildup and resuspension. I have had problems with Jiffy Boob and the like in the past, so I paid the extra going to my local Chevy dealer, but at least I'm sure it got the right fluids in the right amounts, and the truck runs great.

I just got a price from the guy who does all the work on my truck $157 for transmission and that was dropping pan new filter and Ams Oil fluid. He told me make it an even $ 200 he would do the transfer cases.

Give Delta on Jericho a call or stop by and ask how much.
I have had work done there and highly recommend them.
They have been there for 25 plus years for good reason.
The owner lives just south of you on McArthur too.

Save yourself time and money. Just do it yourself it's stupid easy. And you don't need to get all the tranny fluid out at once! Once or twice a year drop the fluid , you'll get about 4 quarts out and you'll be fine. If you need any guidance utlize some of the &*()tube sites and they have great video info.

I have to replace myne as well and about to do it shortly.

what gear lube are you using and going to replace it with?

also you could buy some RTV sealer to seal up the Gasket

And then buy some Nice paint and repaint the Diff Covers.

Let me know I love to work on vechiles!!!!biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

Thanks guys- sorry i haven't replied in awhile. I did change the tranny fluid and filter and did a flush. I read on the net where you disconnect the tranny cooler line from the radiator and connect it to a clear tube you put into a bucket (clamp it in place!). Start the car and shut it down at fist sigh of air bubbles. Drop pan, change filter, clean and reinstall pan. Start pouring in new fluid while you start the car. As soon as new fluid starts appearing in the clear tube shut the engine. Reconnect the tranny cooler line, make sure fluid is at correct level and restart and check for leaks. Worked great except for the not cla,pimg part! Will do the differentials soon.

I let NTB do mine...I have not had it done in awhile 189 for the trannyflush  189 for the differential fflush...The labor after the oil change alternator belt ac belt complete system flush and a new rear center brake light I may be missing stuff was a ton 880.00 on the credit card, now they want do my rear brakes for 579....augh!
