Best braid to braid knot

I was having a new reel spooled up with 832 braid at my local tackle store and the fellow cut it off way before the spool was filled (gaack). Is there a good knot to tie braid to braid so I can finish filling the reel? Many Thanks

Take it back and tell them you want it done the right way.

Wasn't his question, but a good knot I used is a uni-uni knot for braid, especially of similar diameter. I would try to reverse the spool if you can, so that the longer part of the line is on the casting end.

No matter what knot you use, having a knot in the part of the line you cast every cast is a recipe for disaster. That's why I hate 150 yard topshots.



Take it back, have them do it right. You paid for it.

There are a couple of ways. One is a Bimini twist in both sections and a loop to loop connection with three times through cats paw to finish the loop to loop.

You can also do a uni to uni. Double the line on both sides and at least 10 turns with a drop of super glue.

The uni-uni in braid is very small, barely larger than the line width itself.

uni-uni knot.
i have spools with 2-3 such knots with no issues.
how short did he leave it?
fill it and then reverse it.
i usually overfill my reels because after a few fish the line packs down and fits perfect on spool.

I generally use albrights for unequal diameter or unis for equal. Both of them work well.

take it back!!! If you don't feel like that try the uni to uni knot. I have done it a few times for the reels I use for fluke blackfish offshore sea bass and tilefish with no problems. I am not sure if i would use it for tuna though

Uni to Uni x 2....this knot has held up to good sized blues, stripers, albies 'baby' tarpon to about 30 lbs...and even the bottom (i.e. the leader always broke vs the knot)...I've never had a failure (although I'm pretty sure I just jinxed myself )...I'm not sure if there are technically stronger knots out there - but given that I have a zero failure rate with some of the fish I catch combined with the relative ease of tying this knot, I can't see why this wouldn't be everyone's 'go to' knot.

Btw, just to add - I also agree with everyone saying to take it back...most shops charge an arm and a leg to load your reel with braid...So unless it was a complete inconvenience due to distance, etc, I'd take it back.

Because a knot isn't an option in that case. If the spool was short filled then the knot will be an issue. It's going to come thru the guides during the cast, or just be a 'weak link'. Better to have it done right than simply add additional line. If it were hollow core then it would be a different story.

If that knot is in the 'casted' portion of the line its going to be a mess at some point. Too much bulk repeatedly going through the guides.

Take it back, seriously.



The only other option I'd consider would be if there was already several hundred yards on the spool and you just needed a little more to fill it, you could load it onto another spool, put the necessary amount of braid or mono on as backing, then re-spool the new line on top of it.
