PayPal Gift Option - not allowed here

It's not allowed here. Period. If you ask for gift option, your post will be edited and you will be forced to accept regular PayPal at the same price. So don't demand gift option, it's not allowed here.



I hope this is clear, seems like there have been a lot of misunderstanding, so we are simplifying it.

Are people getting ripped off Tim? I know there's no way to re-coup the payment if it's sent using that option, is that why it's being enforced? Just wondering, not looking to cause any crap.

I'm confused by this paypal gift option thing....

When using the gift option, doesnt the buyer pay the paypal fees instead of the recipient. If so, why is it against the rules to use it?

I thought it was clear the gift was not supposed to be the ONLY option.

Why is this still an issue with folks? Talking about a couple of bucks...just hang tight on a higher price if you don't want to absorb the extra cost. Gift option NO ONE pays the fee. People who demand it are wrong...people who suggest it politely as a payment OPTION should be in the right.

I am guessing it's a misuse of Paypal. Obviously if you are receiving goods for in exchange for money then your payment is not a gift. It is compensation for goods and in theory one might even have to claim it on a tax return. Gifts area different ball of wax.



Just me guessing.



Either way, it's Tim's show, and it seems very clear that if you accept Paypal you will not be using the gift option. Pretty straightforward

Negative - this is a revamping of the original rules - PayPal gift is not allowed here. Period. Too much headache and hassle. I thought folks could handle it if allowed to request it privately amongst people they know - but that turned into people demanding it privately from strangers or asking for a higher price if they didn't want to pay using gift option. So, like everything else, the actions of a few get to ruin it for everyone else. No PayPal gift option, period.



I should have known, over all these years, that only the rules with ZERO wiggle room will work. If there's any wiggle room, folks will exploit it or claim they didn't think it applied in this case or that. So, like our other rules, we are making this VERY clear and VERY easy:

NO PAYPAL GIFT OPTION HERE.



I could care less that it's against PayPal's rules, they are responsible to enforce their rules, not us -- I guess folks that have paid for products using the gift option because they were forced to use it should contact PayPal and let them know you were forced to use it...see if they charge the seller their fee after the fact

good move eliminating this

gift option was too much of a hassle for a couple bucks... especially when demanded by newer members without a SOL track record to rely on or trust....

Thanks for explaining this in all the years of using Pay Pal I never understood what it meant. I'm glad you went with the Zero Tolerance it's about time somebody stood up for what they believe in.

I've haven't sold anything here yet, so this is good info if I do.

Please don't take this as being argumentative or disrespectful, but I have to ask. If I buy something and out of my own doing, send PP as a gift option, how would anyone here know I did it that way? No one can see my paypal account but me, and paypal. Thanks in advance for the clarification.

In that case nobody would know, but I think the main thing is Tim and the other mods will not(or don't want to) deal with it if something were to happen. You may trust the person enough to do that, but what if it was damaged, or lost in transit, and they don't want to reconcile.

Ive done it here a few times without realizing it was a rule (but won't do it anymore), but the only reason I suggested it was because the buyers are usually lowballing you but still want the convenience , protection that PP offers and to make the deal less costly on my end would suggest they use the gift option because they already lowballed your shipping and PP fee's away just looking at it from my point of view Thanks , Joe .

Will follow the rules !

PP offers no protection when money is sent as a gift. Just counter the offer, or you have the right to ask for a MO/check/cash.

Joe, as pointed out already, if you use the gift or personal option, there is no protection. If you contact PayPal and tell them the $500 reel you just purchased is really a $25 piece of crap - and you paid using the gift or personal option - they are going to:



1. Let you know that you violated their Terms of Use (broke the rules)



2. Tell you that there's nothing they can do, except to close your PayPal account for violating the rules you agreed to.



But that's between you and PayPal, we don't enforce their rules here - we don't allow the gift/personal option because there is no recourse in the event something goes wrong with the sale.
