we go camping all the time in bass river state park in south jersey, we drink responsible with no problems,we actually were speaking to the park rangers when we were drinking(we all of age plus some) and they told us to dispose of the bottles correctly and have a good night. your campsite is big,you have bathrooms and showers near every site. local dining near or if you want to light up the fire pit there you can. great place and cheap too.
its getting hard to find campgrounds that take tent campers in nj anymore. sucks. i was brought up tent camping and want to take my boy when he gets a little older. we used to go to a place in port republic. my family went there for like 35 years. they dont return calls or anything anymore. piss me off. nice place to have a fire, fish , and party. we went to a place near there and it kind of sucked. evergreen woods i think it was called. really it wasnt that bad. just not what i was used to. they seem to be getting into this timeshare thing with these shed looking things that look nice just not my cup of tea. the last time we camped we went to turkey swap, i guess thats a county park. no alcohol allowed but i tried my luck with a few bottles and some juice. we had no problems, i saw people drinking wine on my trips to the restroom. clear as day. it was actually pretty nice. ill go back. i figured to keep it quiet. left the noisey cases of bottles home.
i have been to multiple sites in NJ that are state owned. I always went with people that are reasonable and do not cause issues. Having alcohol was never an issue. If you are concerned with the rangers just find a site that is the furthest from the road, so no one will bother you. At night the rangers rarely come out unless you are bothering the campers next door. If you dont trust your friends with booze then dont go
