Killian
I am curious about the use of these baits compared to the real thing. Sand Eels Sand Worms Blood Worms Squid Clams Are these any good? Are they worth the price? I use mostly frozen and live bait from local tackle shops. Thanks

daves745t
Gulp Clams are a total waste IMO - especially compared to the real thing. One thing to keep in mind - Gulp scent is the same for all their products, it is just the color and shape that's different. GOTTOG
Gulp works great and if not better than real bait for species and applications were artificials will catch them. Drifting, jigging, trolling, etc. If you give action to the "bait" the Gulp version works wonders. If you're just looking to deadstick/wait-n-bait, then it's effectiveness is greatly reduced IMHO. Basically if you can use soft plastic/rubber lures to catch the fish you're after, the Gulp versions should work very well for you as a substitute. flytyingguy1
Thanks for the GULP! advice. I've read that it is a preferred bait for Fluke, but does it work well for Stripers too? If so, what configurations? Thanks, Roof Works great for stripers using a 7" Jerk Shad with a weighted 7/0 1/4 oz Gami hook. Also I contacted Berkley about thre Gulp Products with a bunch of questions. 1- Gulp juice that comes in the bags & tubs are all the same stuff. The spray you get in the spray bottles are different & shouldn't be mixed. Gulp does not bleed so it is fine to mix different colors & sizes together. The juice does turn color but not a problem. They did say that it does have a shelve life of about 2 yrs. Once the Gulp is dry & hard you might as well throw it out. It won't come back to life. It is also fine to put it back in the juice after fishing it. Hope this answers your questions. Pic of weighted Gami hooh. Weight rides under the Gulp. Yea, muffinman is actually a very innovative person considering he uses a hellmans real mayonnaise jar to store his gulp. fathergll
gottog,i have caught many fish while dead sticking gulp. That may be true but GOTTOG is corrected that the Gulp effectiveness is greatly reduced when dead sticking. Obviously theres conditions like dead sticking in a strong current that can produce great results but in order to really get the most out of Gulp you have to learn how to move these baits
bobby5cents
On 2 seperate occations i have caught fluke on gulp sand worms. Both times very tough fishing, not much happening. tried everything, finally, Spro jig, with white 4" swimming mullet and spearing, and teaser with same. In between a plain #4 hook snelled onto teaser line with whole gulp sand worm. Bingo, jig and teaser ignored, but continuous action on the worm. similar comditions a few weeks later. Same setup, same results "Best to keep your mouth shut and have folks think you're a fool, than to open it and prove them all correct"
raybliu
I love to jig with spearing for fluke in the back bay. 2 weeks ago, I fish Gulp for the first time using 4" sinking minnow and it outfished the spearings by a wide margin, (1 to 6). It was no contest and I'm now sold on Gulps. Bought a whole bunch the last week and hoping to try them this weekend.
midwestexile
Fluke loved it on a jig, although I wouldn't doubt that live/cut bait catches the biggest of the big. Durability and availability make it a winner. Midwestexile
diklarsen
i really like gulp for fluke and large mouth but i honestly never really noticed a difference in any other fish. I DONT KNOW IF YOU KNOW THIS BUT AFTER ALL THIS TIME ................. IM STILL KIND OF A BIG DEAL.

Obviously theres conditions like dead sticking in a strong current that can produce great results but in order to really get the most out of Gulp you have to learn how to move these baits I don't deadstick much, but when Gulp first came out I tried deadsticking it a couple of times and caught nothing. Which is why I think Gulp clams are worthless (not to mention that they don't "smell" like clams....).
