You could. They are extremely over-rated. Mine is rated to 8 ounces(the XH 11fter) and I hate throwing 6 with it. The twelve foot 4-6 likes plugs in the 2-3 oz range. They cannot throw the upper-end of their rating in my opinion, so this seems beneficial to you in your case. The trophy is a more true-to-rating rod, the airwave is def. over-rated for what it can handle.

I don't know about the 11' but I have a 10 and a 9. Both of these work well on either side of their weight range. Love em.

For the money they are very decent rods. I have a 9' 1-31/2oz. It is not the rod my Mojo is, but it was about 1/2 the price. I would say that mine could throw less than 1oz more easily than more than 3 1/2 oz.

If you are looking for distance, the rod will throw better than the 704.

for your 704 a 10fter would be better. I throw bombers and small redfins on the 10 airwave its not the overall strength of the 11 fter that hurts throwing bombers it is just too long to load without you doing beach drag casting.

I love my 9 footer. But I use it on the light end, for tossin' jighead with shrimp.

Have tossed Mirrolure Top Dogs (heavier than Bombers) and it throws 'em nicely)

I never used it for Surf fishing. It is so light and handy, I use it like some would use a 8-10 pound test, 6 1/2'- 7' spinning combo.

I just think it's neat.

I have a 10' 3-6 Airwave, my buddy has a 11' 4-8, they both are a great rod if you need to chuck some weight, but it sounds like you have too much rod for bombers, if you have the heavier. If you are looking to toss something a mile that weighs 3-4-5 oz than the 11' is worth it's weight in gold!

P.S. Now that they (Tsunami) has gotten cheap this year and dropped the FUJI guides I would not buy any of the Airwave series, principle alone. They made a great rod at a great price then after it became popular enough they changed it. Now they are using a cheap guide instead of dumping that stupid bag for the rod.....mad.gif

Just got back from a week on Nantucket where my main rod was a Tsunami Airwave 9 footer I'd picked up a few days prior.

Very happy with the balance and performance. It's the one time I can say that I was out there casting for hours on end and didn't feel the fatigue in my hands or wrists that night or the next morning.

I was using it with an Okuma Salina 55 loaded with 20# Fireline.

I like the way it loads "short" and I don't need to lean into every cast to get the distance. Bringing it back is enough to load it and with a quick snap, fire off a Slug-Go into the great beyond.

I did feel under-gunned in the rougher waters though. This is an area that I rarely fish and would have wanted my DBlue TC4 10 footer that starts out at 2 oz. However for calmer areas where I typically fish and throw plugs less than 2 oz, it was a real joy to cast.

I landed two keeper-sized Stripers. The rod had backbone, but not so much that it felt like I didn't have to be conscious of the fight. I let the drag do its thing and the battle was quite fun; I didn't feel like I was overpowering the fish at all.

Bummer about losing the Fuji guides. I can see this rod as my go-to for the balance and versatility.

I went out yesterday and tried casting bombers. I was suprised I got any distance. Not much but about 50-60 feet. I put a mark around 40 50 60 and so on, on my line. it works ok for close up situations. Caught 2 little blues, it was something.
