Slick706
So i know nothing about this reel other then its designed for SW fishing. It has the waterproof drag and aluminum body. It seems like a well built reel. I own Stradics, Sedonas, Saros and Sonora Shimano reels but this one seems a little different. Whats the deal with these reels? are they good for the surf? or is it an inshore reel. I spooled it w/ 300yds of 10# flame fireline, going to use it for fluking. Slick706
sports authority had 1 in stock on clearance for $39.99. And i found a 300yd spool of 10# green fireline marked $17.99, thats the price for the 125yd spool. Score! I really like this reel
Fishalicious
I did almost the same exact thing about 3 weeks ago! I was in a Sports Auth. browsing and saw this Spheros 4000FA sitting in the bottom of the display case. I knew it was the previous model and saw that it already had a price reduction tag down to $69 or something. So I got one of the guys and said, "Hey, this is a 2 year old out-dated model. I'll give you $50 total for it." It took a little haggling, but that's what I walked out the door with for that price. I suppose you got an even better deal - nicely done! ematsuda
That reel has been proven many, many times over. Nice find - enjoy!
BridgeTender
Nothing to dislike about the spheros imo. I have the 4000FB it takes a beatin and keeps on a tickin, it loves #20 power pro.Very easy to service also.
Drako
I have the same reel, go ahead and pair it up with a decent rod and you will be amased at the power this little reel has. That reel has a huge fanbase down here and it has taken every inshore gamefish you can think of.. IMO its alittle overkill for fluking Semper Fi > Always Faithful"Everytime History repeats itself, the price of the lesson goes up"
Robsmack
There are a few web sites that sell the FA model at a discounted rate (60-ish) to get rid of the old stock since many prefer the newer 4000FB.
oldschool77
If you can find an FB go for it but wither model you can't go wrong. In general Shimano seems to run smaller capacity on comparatively similar size reels but that is not necessarily a bad point. I never have to worry about my 4000FA on a Tica 7 footer or possibly my 8 footer. 20lb Fireline IIRC and I never hear so much as a peep out of it. Slick706
yeah maybe this reel is overkill then for fluke, sounds like it can be a nice reel for bucktailing/bombers/redfins in the surf paired w/ my 8ft rogue rod.

I have considered putting it on a 8 foot Tica as a light weight alternative to my go-to 9 foot Spheros 6000FB setup but an oldschool Mitchell 300 is begging for a rod. joerosa1
Have the Shimano Spheros 4000 FA paired with a Tsunami Airwave 10 foot surf rod. It is a great setup for surf fluke, bay bait, surf light plugs, plastics and metals. I have it spooled with 30 lb suffix braid, great setup very light and it is always in my car....
