Dogs & Hemlock mulch

I'm pulling my hair out right now hoping I didnt really eff up.

Spread 3 yards^3 of hemlock mulch last weekend around the house. Normally I go cedar, but they didnt have it in bulk and the guy said hemlock would last longer.

Saturday night this weekend, my JRT starts puking all over the house. He stopped booting, but is not really eating and is definately not himself. It dawns on me last night as I'm trying to fall asleep ....Hemlock is poison, no??

Wifey is taking cujo to the vet in a few minutes, I'm hoping its a coincidence and not the mulch. And if it is the mulch, then what the F do I do?

Anyone have any experience or enlightenment for me?

The hemlock of yore, the one they used to poison people, is a completely different plant. It's a little herbaceous weed, not the tree we call hemlock .

JRTs get into a lot of things, not saying it's not the mulch, but I'm not so sure it's poisonous.

I use hemlock every year (12 yds). My yellow lab is 10 and eats about 1/2 a yard every year. Never made him sick, except the occasional piece that gets lodged in his throat and triggers the gagging puke noise.

Maybe the smaller dog is more at risk but my dog eats it like it's goiong out of style for the first feew days it's fresh.

Just a question....

Did the mulch you bought have a real high amount of dye in it. Real hemlock shouldn't turn your pants colors when you're on your knees spreading it, the dyed stuff does that. Just a question, maybe the dye had something to do with it?

Anyway, hope the little guy is ok and feeling better soon.

I have my JRT mix and she eats mulch like crazy.

Mulch, shrooms, pine cones, rocks, plastic.

Recently though, she had a scary incedent where she started puking bad and then had massive diarrhea. I honestly thought she was a goner. Wouldn't eat or drink. Didn't poop for a full day, which if you knew her, is wrong.

Late the next day, she poops out 2 rocks of mulch. She's fine now.

undyed.

You're making me feel alot better in terms of the poison aspect anyways. He too is a little bound up, very much out of his ordinary routine in all aspects.

What's funny is how MUCH my puppy LOVES mulch.

Every time we go out, she tries to B-line for the mulch bed and snag a chunk. EVERY DAMN TIME, lol. Every day now, i am sticking my finger in her mouth to pop a piece of mulch out.

It's funny, but not. She's a mulch addict.

Might be a blockage from the mulch. I'm guessing the vet is going to do x-rays?
