Rod holder backpack???

Does anyone know of a backpack that is capable of attaching a surf rod??
Has anyone modified a regular pack for this. I really don't want to put rod holders on my bike, I'd rather just strap it to my backpack somehow.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

baseball backpacks have sleeves for two bats. I think you can use the sleeves to hold you rods.

Like Hardcore wrote there are also some lacrosse equipment bags that have slots the entire way through.

that looks like it would work. u can even cut holes on the bottom of the sleeves so that your rod slides down all the way to the reel

Has bottle pockets on both sides, They are closeable pouches that are only attached on their sides. Above them is a strap with a friction fastener. I have put my seven piece fly rod tube in there and put the fastener through the handle. Walking or biking with any fishing rod might put the tip too high in the air to be practical. What I am thinking is if the rod and reel were together and put through the space behind the bottle pocket the reel would stop the rod from falling through but the reel would be around four feet above the ground to start with.

Peace

Cabelas has them in the fly fishing section.

Hey that's pretty cool .

I use elastic (bungee) cords to attach my rod (2 pc.) and reel to my pack.
I have a backpack on a frame. The aluminum tubes are easy to hook stuff on to, and is easier on the shoulders because alot of the load is carried on the hips. I walk a pretty good distance to get to my spots,my hands are always free.

Some ski/mountian packs have ski slots which can carry heavy long items.

WFO makes a fishing pack that they claim can carry two rigged and ready rods. A picture is below. I've thought about getting one, but I've been reluctant to shell out $50 without seeing the bag first. If the rod holders work,it might be a handy thing to have on the beach.

how many rods do you want to carry? and what size are they?

Cabelas has a nice tackle box backpack that will hold two rods. Search under keywords : fishing backpack. Click More views to see it with rods installed.

Anybody use those Slings you see advertised here and there. Are the for large rods or little 7 footers.
Need something also. Don't like to walk on the beach, because I like to walk...Who my kidding, I'm afraid my old Bronco will breakdown and get stuck. But anywho, looking for something to hump three long heavers (2 pc) about a mile or two down the beach. Currently wrap with velco together, but they still swing around.
Might try the lacross backpack idea.

I made this one. It works well for carrying a couple surf rods, a surf spike and a tray of plugs/tins. I doubt that you could cycle comfortably using it.
