Kerry83
I am trying to find a decent reel to match my 8' Tsunami Airwave Spinning. I use it for plugging and i currently have a chepo okuma on it. I would like to spend under $100. Any ideas would help. jpari
Perhaps, a Penn 712 would match nicely. Rugged, reliable, in your price range and you can find them on the BST.

Simp
Try a Penn Sargus 5000. Under $100 and it's a very good reel. U.S. Marines: No better friend, no worse enemy.

Kerry83
Try a Penn Sargus 5000. Under $100 and it's a very good reel. Anyone else own this reel? it is right in my price range and i've heard mixed reviews. People are happy with the feel and the drag but some have a problem with the bail snapping shut. Any input would help. Sea Prince Custom Plugs
jerseyjoeb
I have a Sargus 5000. I don't use it constantly. It's in the rotation. A little on the heavy side for plugging from the surf, though. Never had the bail snap over. A nice light reel would be an Abu Garcia 806i which comes with two spools - one which is braid friendly and the other mono friendly. I love this reel. Another light reel is the Daiwa BG 20, which was not necessarily designed with braid in mind. Durable. Holds 200 yds of 14# mono.
leakin waders
I use a 360 slammer on an 8 foot tsunami, not the airwave ,, the other one.MH? very light combo and has held up very well.

People are happy with the feel and the drag but some have a problem with the bail snapping shut. Any input would help. As you know, I have the Sargus 5,000, and also have a 6,000, and both of them have been stellar for me. Not one problem what-so-ever. I took the factory grease out of them and replaced it with vaseline and 3-n-1 oil. Feel free to dunk them! Great reels for less than $100. Workhorses. A buddy of mine has the 5,000 as well and had put it through hell in the surf and, like me, has experienced no break-downs or setbacks. U.S. Marines: No better friend, no worse enemy. Kerry83
I'll be using 50 lb PP. Do you use braid with the sargus? Vaseline and 3-in-1... does this work well against corrosion? Sea Prince Custom Plugs

PP on them. The Vaseline and 3-in-1 doesn't let ANY water in, so no corrosion to worry about. If you want more info PM me and I'll tell exactly how I did the Vaseline/3-in-1.
