What is a FICHT motor what year and make???

I just read these motors were POS and they blew up. What years and make should I stat away from?

Stay awwwway from all of those bad beasts. The reason you don't much is Johnson name is trying to forget them .I had a friend who had one that could not be fixed under warrantee and finally the dealer too it back for an exchange to a different motor. JP

OMC Johnson,Evinrude Ficht engine had major problems from thier begining in 97. They would either blow the power head or blow up and cause fires. Any Ficht engine that OMC made I would stay clear of. Here is a good story on it from Boat U.S.

What years were those motors produced and was it all of Johnson, and Evenrude?

After reading it was only 200 225HP motor with the year 99 and 2000?

The hydra sports I am looking at are just that 200HP one is a 2000 and the other a 2003

It took Bombardier 2 model years to get the Ficht motors working well after they purchased Johnson Evinrude in 2001. By the 2nd model year they had beefed up parts and fixed the parts quality problems in MX. If you can find a 2003 or later that has been run frequently w/out a history of problems they are a strong, quiet, low smoke, and efficient motor.

I had a 1999 90 HP Evinrude that blew up last year. After tearing it down I found that one of the rod bearings disintegrated and parts got sucked into the top end. Examaning the crank showed lots of wear on all the jounals.

I believe it affected more than just those, but I would stay away from any FICHT engine, especially if you plan on trolling.

The resale value of those boats with that engine are horrible, not to mention the fact they could blow up.

Unless you are getting some crazy deal, try to find a different boat or at least go with the 2003.

i have a 1998 150hp FICHT. a lot much maintenance. this year i lost a fuel lift pump...$300, power distributer panel...$300, replaced the plugs for $75. but the damn thing just keeps going. i like the motor but i would MUCH PREFER an etec...if i only had 15g's.

If you ever upgrade go with a 4 stroke Yamaha. You won't be sorry!
