Fishing advice for Stratford, New Haven CT.

I am going to be in the Stratford, New Haven CT. area on the weekend of Oct.30 and Nov.1 and I'm looking to do some surf fishing for stripers and blues. I've surf fished In N.C., N.J. and Maine many times but never here. Anybody out there that could tell me some good places to go that also have beach access in this area? I hope the runs of fish are still happening at that time of year! Any help would be appreciated. THANKS SURF ROD

Yes, fish will still be around at that time, especially if the weather is still mild. It is my opinion/observation that the "fall run" in Western CT happens much later than people commonly believe. Heck, I have caught stripers in Rhode Island in early November.

The Connecticut DEP has a coastal access guide that literally gives you driving directions to shore spots.

Hint: Think major river in that part of the state.

new haven harbor is starting to see stripers, west haven beaches - sandy point or west haven boat ramp will get you in the area.

or the bluefish inside the housatonic maybe bond's dock.. for great surf casting you can wade out off short beach in stratford - stripers will be coming into the river soon blues are still in the lower housatonic..

otherwise pleasure beach.. i havn't been there in years. I usually work charles island to the housatonic jetty and into the lower housatonic river. the lower river between I 95 and the mouth are generally productive this time of year. I hope I am not overly specific.. just getting you into the general area.
