Chesapeak Bay Bridge Tunnel striper report

Now that the keeping season is closed, there is great catch-and-release striper fishing at the CBBT in Virginia. Most fish are 18-35 inches but a friend got a 40-inch fish on fly Sunday. We had a blast catching them yesterday. All you could ever want. There is a short video of that action on youtube titled "CBBT Striper Blitz - Fly Fishing."

Is it all from boat only?

Yeah it is pretty much all from a boat, at least when I have been there. It looks like you might get some shore action on a few occasions down toward VA beach.

To make it easy here is the link.

It is reliable from a boat. Not reliable from the beach. The fish do chase bait onto the beach inside the Bay (Norfolk) and in the surf (Virginia Beach and NC). Have had some great days catching them along shore (on foot and in boat) but you never know where or when so it cannot be predicted. If you wanted to try, the most likely beach spot is where the CBBT hits the shore in Virginia Beach. The CBBT holds bait and thus stripers all year. Super fishery. But, I would not drive from out of town to fish the beach...but with access to a boat YES.

Great video! I have only been able to fish the CBBT off one of the big "party" type boats out of Lynnhaven, mainly jigging. Are there reasonable alternatives or is that the best a non boat owner can hopefor without spending big bucks on a small (albeit the ideal opportunity if I had the $$)charter?
