Crazyotto
Man, have things changed since I last hit the slopes 15yrs ago. I'm checking out new ski equipment and the skis are nothing like the ones I used. Are the parabolic skis that much better than my long boards? I used to bomb Outer Limits up at Killington when I was younger. Now, I'm just looking to cruise the blue squares. I have a pair of 210cm Olin slalom skis with one trip on them. Looks like I'll be renting some to see what they are like. "Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile"
fish-bum
Definitely rent - you'll want to dump the long boards. With the parabolics (shaped) skis they turn easier, and you also can use a shorter ski so they turn quicker. You'll like them.
titleguy
Save the 210s for that 70s party at Bear Mountain. The new skis are a lot of fun- power steering. I went from 212 GS skis in 1994 to 174 all mountains now with some stops in between. I'm looking at some 168 Rossi Z11s right now. Waaaaay too much fun. Hint though- because of the shape of the ski- they like to be an edge, always... If you try "bombing" Outer Limits on shaped skis, you can post from the Rutland Regional Medical Center. I would ******* LOVE a grave blanket.
FenderBender
Once you go parabolic you may never go back. They offer a lot more control with a lot less effort in a much shorter ski. I went from 195cm on my conventionals to 180cm on the bolics with same results for cruising, but don't like 'em on the steeps. A little too precise for me. I still use my older K2 slabs for the diamonds. "All people have the right to stupidity but some abuse the privilege"
mcafam
They'll most likely have you drop a size or two with parabollics. My wife says they're not much different. I rented the last year I skied and really didn't notice a difference from my old rossi's. You aren't supposed to ski with them together, rather spread apart a bit. I do miss it. (bad knees and feet) Have a good time.
Cabo2005
You will probably drop more than one size. They are a blast and you do not need the length. I used to do the Killington thing lots as my parents lived in that neck of the woods. I used the new skis at Grand Targee out in Idaho. Lots of fun and great snow. Wayne Tj
I too got back into skiing after a 15 year hiatus. In the basement were my 215 cm Dynastar skis and Salomon rear entry boots. I skied the whole mountain with these, including the Outerlimits, double black diamonds, you name it. I took them into the ski shop to get them tuned and have the bindings checked out. The guy working there, whom I knew, said to leave them at home and try a pair of K2 Recon in 177 cm. So I bought a pair on Tecnica Diablo boots and hit Okema with the kids. I was very skeptical that these short skis would be stable enough a high speeds and hold an edge in hard packed snow. Boy, was I wrong, they were great! I bought a pair last April, at the end of the season, for ½ price. I can't wait to use them in two weeks. Demo a good pair of parabolics and you won't want to use your old boards. America, the country so great that even its haters refuse to leave.
GaryK
There is definitly a difference between old boards and the new shaped skis (parabollic lol). I too used to ski on 205-208 and now am on a 175 for slalom and 181 for GS. In the old days almost 100% of your weight was on the down hill ski, now with shaped skis you put a bit more weight on the the other ski...like 70-30%. The new side cut allows for more complete turns, even at higher speeds. Picking up a new pair of race stock atomic GS skis tonight. Getting them for free (normally $1100) cause I busted mine last season in a race, and Atomic replaced them for zip . sweeeeeetttttt!!!!!!!! I just hope I can use them this year cause my accident. titleguy
Why handicap yourself like that? Here, Here... The difference in technology over the years is remarkable. Not only have thes skis changed dramatically, but boots have as well. Fore and aft stiffness is much less of a factor than lateral stability that is required to push and hold the ski from edge to edge. Once you hit the "sweet spot" on shaped skis you will know it- you're pulling Gs. I would ******* LOVE a grave blanket.

Triet
If you are just looking to cruise blues, and you are a decent skier, do what I do, ditch the skis. I rock snowblades. They are about 2' long, and can go 90% of the places you can go on a ski, with less effort. Perfect for the groomed, manmade "snow" in the East. Stick em under your chair in the lodge. So much easier to manage in a ****hole like Killington.
