POTUS schmotus

I keep seeing people use the abbreviation POTUS instead of just typing the word President.

Why? Is conserving 4 keystrokes so important?

Seems lazy and sloppy to me.

Anyone have any insight into this?

in the case of McCain, the acronym gives me the flexibility to refer to him as IMPOTUS if the occasion calls for it.

Well, since you created this thread right after responding to a post i made using "POTUS", I feel inclined to respond. For me, lazy typing is the answer. I misspell many words due to poor typing and hate to proof/correct. The more I abbreviate the better, imo. LMK if u agree, TTYL.

This was not directed at you. It's actually based on an accumulation of POTUS's I've seen over the years.

Can't stand that private message abreviating either to be honest.

I blame it entirely on Tom Clancy. He made the damn thing "the acronym" for those in the know.

It is a more specific term that "President" - so I suppose it can remove some ambiguity, especially if the discussion involves more than one president, and it doesn't require the qualifications "our" "this" "the current" "Bush" etc., so it can save more than 2 keystrokes in certain contexts.
