Knot to attach Braid to Spool

With a new setup last Fall, I used braid for the first time.

I used a square knot (ok not the best) to attach the line to the spool.

I found when the spool got wet that all the line on the spool was able to spin which prevented the drag from working properly, etc.

What is the best knot/way to start a spool of braid to prevent this from happening.

You never tied braid to the spool directly.

Either use a electric tape and tape the braid to the spool; or tie about 4-6 warps of mono to the braid and spool up like that.

Do a search on the forums, there is a lot of info.

Put enough mono on the spool to cover it and then attach your braid to the mono backing.



Use a uni knot to connect the mono to spool and use a uni to uni connection to join the mono to braid. Don't be afraid to use a little glue on the line to line connection.

if the mono and braid are of same diameter square knot is the best..maybe you just can't tie a square knot right.square knots are for two tag lines that are of equal diameter. lines of different size will not stay together

do the braid to mono using a double uni knot ... mono to spool using an arbor knot ..
