Stripers in CT

Hello All,

I just moved from Maine to Madison, CT. I am not very familiar with the fishing here in CT but I have heard it is great... assuredly better than Maine for striper at least. Can anyone give me general advice on where I can catch stripers this early in the season. I'm not looking for specific spots or secret locations just general areas/bodies of water where I may catch fish. I am new to the forum and CT and I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Welcome,
you can pretty much catch stripers from your front door in madison!! the CT river is about to get really hot with Striper action and about 25 min. north, in Mystic/Stonington you have a bunch of spots to fish for them as well. what type of fishing do you do? do you fish with a kayak?
Also, in Old Saybrook, River's end Tackle shop is great and they would be happy to point you in the right direction, specially down your way.
The nice part of being where you are is that if you like to fish the river, you have the CT and the Thames not that far and if you like surf fishing you can be in the RI beaches in 35min, or so, for some great fishing!!!

you're a hop skip and a jump from hamonnaset and other rocky neck state parks.

Think major tidal rivers, particularly in the next 45 or so days. Madison is not a bad place to be if you're into stripers. :-)

check out River's End and consider joining the CT Surfcasting Association (located right in madision.....)

Thank you all for the information. I am going to make my first attempt tonight on the Thames. That was the advice of the local bait shop and many people on here. Where can I get a map of places to access the shore legally?

p.s. This forum is very bad for my productivity at work!

This ought to help with your access questions. http://www.lisrc.uconn.edu/coastalaccess/

Yeah, you can spend some serious time on this site. Watch out for the Tavern and Political graffiti, they are the spinning vortex of productivity death!

I went to the Thames friday night the 29th and Saturday morning early. Myself and the friend I was fishing with caught a total of nine fish. The largest was 22 inches. In Maine thats a keeper. We also tried the CT river on Sunday but we got skunked. I think we were too far up river.
