If you guys could give me any advice on whether this is a good deal or not that would be great, or if you have any experience with this yak. Needless to say, i'm considering it. here is the add verbatum "Wilderness Systems Kayak 16' Sit on top Brown 2 covered hatches Great for fishing or just cruising. Keeps on track" thanks for your help.
Mullet Miller
If it's a Tarpon, that is a great price. Jump on it if you can.

fishingrod
Tarpon 160 is a great yak. BUT, if it's the older model with a rear hatch instead of an open rear tankwell then I personally would probably pass on that yak. I really like having a rear tankwell to hold my gear. I used to have a Tarpon 14 which is great yak. I now have a Hobie Adventure. Below is a pic of my cooler and laundry basket with gear in the rear tankwell. This would be difficult if you have the older Tarpon 160 with the rear hatch. If it's a newer Tarpon with the tankwell then I would say go for it at that price. ScottO
Confirm it is the 160i, not the older version. Does it have a tank well? If not, I;d seriously consider passing. the older yak had the same hull, but the seat had a prominent hump in the middle. Miserable paddle if your butt didn't fit just right. Let us know. Mullet Miller
Dinoboy, it's up to you. I have the older 160, and love it. I bungee a milk crate on top of the rear hatch, or just take a lure bag along. Sure, it's no tankwell, but it's still a very good yak to fish from. The price is very good for a 160, if it has both hatches. A rudder would make it an even better price.
JimW
just got word back that it is a tarpon, what would you guys recomend now? I have a 160 that is the older version and has the 2 hatches. I haven't seen a 160i yet that is made with the same quality. I think the hull is thicker. The hatches are big and you can stick 9 ft rigged rods in it. The seat can be really uncomfortable for some but a good seat or pad can fix that. Tankwell or not, the old tarpons seem to be tanks. dinoboy123
got another email back, it is approximately 5 years old, so what model tarpon would that make it?

ScottO
all I'm saying is that the seat in the old 160 was either great or sucked royally, If it's the new one shouldn't be a problem, if the older version you should try it out first. as for the tankwell, take or leave it. It's all in the seat. Ask if there is a tankwell, if so buy it. If not, try out the seat and see if you like it before buying it. As a side note, all the older yaks had more plastic, and we beyotched about weight and access, and then plastics went through the roof. I've got a 160i that's mostly dry inside. The only dry kayak I;ve owned was the perception swing. Damn thing had dry cobwebs in it after a day on the sound.
fishingrod
First pic of the blue yak is the old Tarpon 160 with the rear hatch. Second pic of the orange yak is the new Tarpon 160i with the rear tankwell. Also, find out if it has a rudder. A rudder on a longer 16ft yak makes it easier to turn and adds value to the yak.
