Mick2360
Jeanne Assam, 42 shoots Matt Murray, 24 after he fails to drop his weapon. Murray had killed two teen girls and wounded two others Sunday at the New Life Church. When she realized she would need to use force, as Murray failed to heed her warnings and continued his advance, Assan prayed, "Holy Spirit, be with me". Thank God for people like Jeanne Assam. Nice to see a true bad guy get stopped cold. Assam, a former police office, was in the right place and probably saved a lot of lives. I'm not a gun nut but I applaud her actions. She is a hero in my book. Posting on My Own Dime Since 2006.

DonnieB
she brought a gun to church with her? She was an armed security guard. It's Pretty bad when the degree of hatred has made it necessary.
Voldemars
from reading other news articles it seems that there were other armed guards at the church who drew their weapon but did not fire. What kind of Church needs multiple armed guards?? makes me frightened to think about it. V.

Mick2360
Church's that receive hate mail and threats. Good enough for you? Posting on My Own Dime Since 2006.
fishnmagician
Church's that receive hate mail and threats. Good enough for you? Totally lost. I refuse to believe there isn't MORE to this story. the Priest/**** problem generated a lot of whacky hate for the Catholic Church, but I am unaware of any armed guards at their churches, there must be more to this story. Knight771
Read the darn story. Young disturbed man, part of congregation. There had been an attack on a Church 60 miles south on Sat. evening and the pastor of the large church discussed and because of hate mail, felt they needed security. They did. She probably saved a number of lives because the church was very crowded.
MikeM58
From what I read, this church doubled it's security in response to an attack the day before on another religous institution the day prior. Turns out, the same guy attacked that place too.

Chuckles
Saw her interviewed on CNN last night by Cooper, along with a VN vet who willingly put himself in the line of fire to distract the shooter from other targets. Both are a couple of heros. The vet asked one of the other guards for his weapon when it was apparent the loser wouldn't use it, but the guard refused. Fish Hunter
In regards to armed guards at churches. We have a guard at our small rural Catholic Church on Sunday am. It is in response to cars being broken into during Mass. We have had gang tagging in the bathrooms, etc. Criminals, gangs and nut cases understand that churches are more likely to not have anyone willing to fight or defend for themselves. Soft target. I have CC permit and very rarely go anywhere without my two advisors: Smith and Wesson. It has become the world we live in. It is what it is and it no longer matters. WD, I wasn't hysterical, I didn't say that Christians kill people, in fact, is there any evidence that the woman (a hired security guard) was in fact a Christian? we do know that the nut job was part of the congregation.
