H'Islander
King Mackerel and Wahoo - Are these fish the same animal or are they just cousins? rrrick
Very different fish, both in the mackerel family though.
Ditch Jigger
Close cousins but different fish. Both great on the plate, too Same general shape and kings can get to about the same size as medium wahoo. Easiest way to tell them apart is that the king has sort of a zig-zaggy lateral line. 'Hoos usually have vertical bars on the side. "…if catching fish is your only objective, you are either new to the game or too narrowly focused on measurable results.” - D. H'Islander
Thanks - we got two wahoo a couple of weeks back at "the horns" south of montauk - one was 5-1/2 feet long and about 65 lbs and the other was 4 foot and about 40 lbs. I agree - I have a new favorite grilling fish! Thanks for the info guys "When the government's boot is on your throat, whether it is a left boot or a right boot is of no consequence."
