I forget the names, but they are hard to miss...there is one marina that has about 15 boats sailing from it...there brochure or advertisement was all over the holiday inn i stayed at...mostly grouper and snapper fishing...not too exciting but tasty.

IMO, snapper and grouper fishing blows striper fishing out of the water...

There's a boat that ran out of Clearwater named the "Double Eagle II". It's a big steel-hulled catamaran and that baby can really fly. They thought nothing of running 90 or more miles into the gulf. I used to fish it quite a bit when my folks had a house down there....mostly fishing for snapper, grouper, and amberjacks (if they can find 'em.) Don't know if it's still running. See if you can find out something about it on the net.

Spig....

I just checked and they're still running. Now they have 2 boats, both cats...the Double Eagle II (the one I fished on) and a newer, larger Double Eagle III. It seems they have cut down on their range (out to 35 miles into the gulf). Fare for the day, 6 hours, is $50 on the II...the III is making 2 half-day trips. Give them a call at 877-446-1653 between 9am and 7pm for more info. They're in Clearwater, right at the end of Rte. 60 out of Tampa, real east to find. Give it a shot..I know the II is a great platform to fish from. Drop me a PM if you want more info.
