  1. The ocean will be churning for a good long time - fluke no like. At least in my area that is south of Rockaway/Jones area. I'm shooting for the last week of the season to the end of the month - maybe sooner if we get settled seas for a few days... By then not sure where they will be.... ill be looking from 18-30 miles off the beach... where I've found them in years past.
  2. Barkeepers Friend liquid.... $ 2.69/ bottle at ACE H/W. Use this, shake it up, dump in a pail. Paint on the stained waterline with cheap paintbrush. Do not scrub. Give a minute, rinse, stain gone. Also use for rust stains from stainless hardware. Good chit, much cheaper than on/off and wont burn out your lungs. After you remove the stains, wax as you normally would.
  3. You may want to check out the charter boat MISS BERYL.... he sails out of Long Beach and does open trips when not chartered. They have a website missberyl.com and face book page as well. Check them out.
  4. um, didn't RyanPostig start this thread looking for work as a mate
  5. Here's my skiff - 18' Maritime with 90 Honda.
  6. Hey Tide Runner, I used to use the simple green but that stuff is strong even when diluted and will strip off the wax! I have a 31 foot charter boat and want my wax job to last - too much boat for me to buff anymore, I pay my boatyard a small fortune to wax it for me. I do use the simple green for the fishing rods and coolers though. I like to use bleach too but only on my gelcoat decks, never on waxed gelcoat.
  7. Two products I've found to be indispensable.... Barkeeper's friend Liquid - this stuff is awesome..... $ 2.69/bottle. Takes off rust stains and stains on hull/deck.... just brush on no scrubbing necessary... cheap!! Will not burn your lungs out like ON OFF. It has the oxalic acid in it. Cant do with out this. Second this is ORPINE boat soap with wax. This stuff is pricey, but a gallon lasts me for the season. Wash your boat with this, will not take off your wax.
  8. Update - Went for the re-power. Installed a 90 HP 2016 Honda motor on the boat - traded in the Yamaha. All I can say about the Honda is wow.... quiet, smooth, idles beautifully. Love the new freshwater flush feature these new motors have. World of difference compared to the old motor. Not to mention the new motor will use about half the fuel as the old. Which gives me twice the running time which means a lot due to the 24 gallon fuel tank. The added weight of the 4 stroke motor is absolutely not issue with regard to the self bailing aspect. Matter of fact the boat sits better now, the rain water drains toward the transom where it used to pool up by the center console. As far as top end, the speed is pretty much the same as the old motor, I get about 32 mph at WOT.
  9. Hey Rudder, Nice ! Go for it BTW, I forgot to mention the Coosa (Penkse) board decking was laminated on both sides with fiberglass.... if you need the layup schedule let me know. Billybob, the hull is rated for a 90 HP max. John, The boat did 28 knots at WOT which is around 32 mph. That is plenty of speed for what I need.... I think I may put a new 4 stroke motor on the skiff over the winter.... she sits very high in the water now. I stood on the transom (I weigh 220#) and am still way above the scupper line. So I would have no problem maintain the self bailing aspects of the hull going with 4 stroke. If the 4 stroke weighed 100# more the my 2 stroke Yammy I would be surprised....
  10. Here are a few pictures from the completed project. Boat got a new 1/2" Coosa deck and casting deck finished with Awlgrip "Matterhorn White" finish. Hull received Awlgrip "Ice Blue" finish. Waterlogged foam was removed and replaced with new "billet" foam which was fitted and epoxied into place. This foam will never be able to soak water. Boat received new steering cable and sleeve, new fuel hoses, was rewired, and we placed 2 new batteries, new running lights and rub rail. A new live well system was installed with through hull bronze scoop and pump located under decks. Had the boat out for a rip and she did 28 knots at WOT with the old 90 HP Yamaha 2 stroke motor. Boat seems to be sitting significantly higher in the water than previously. If I choose to repower the boat down the road with a four stroke, there should be no problem with the additional weight on the transom. I am going to run the old motor this fall and decide over the winter to repower or not.....
  11. For my cash, the best skiff out there is the Maritime.... dry ride, true self bailing hull. Problem is they are hard to find used, they rarely seem to come up for sale.... You should try and hitch a ride on a bunch of different makes so you can get a feel for the ride.
  12. The water intrusion was caused by a number of items installed in the deck by previous owners allowing water to soak the plywood and everything else...........We will make it better than new when done. No more wood at all.
  13. Hey, The skiff is still in the boat shop.... the fellow doing the work on it is behind..... the old plywood deck was removed, and all the old water logged foam was dug out. I was told about 600 lbs of weight was removed. The new deck (1/2" Penske board) has been installed along with new billet foam so it can never get soaked again. The new deck is being faired as we speak and I hope to have the interior and exterior shot with awlgrip. Ice blue hull, and off white on the inside. Once that is completed the boat will be re-wired than that will be it. The boat will be lighter and faster than before. She will also sit higher in the water which will help me if I decide to repower with a heavier motor someday, will be able to self bail.
