  1. Since the inlet opened up I've hiked there plenty of times, to avoid the heat of the day I usually do this around sunset or just before sunrise. As for the conditions out there, BE VERY CAREFUL WADING!!! I can't stress that enough, the south side of the inlet facing the ocean isn't that bad as you can expect normal ocean conditions. The backside though facing the bay has some rogue waves that come out of nowhere and have seen a few people nearly go down. Fish there, I've had good luck on any tide change for bass/blues but I never end up keeping anything to avoid hiking back with the extra weight
  2. Go with the 4000 fierce II, I keep it as a spare and works fine for most fish in the area. Just don't bottom out the drag or you may hurt the gearing
  3. everybody needs to chill, this isn't suppost to be a site about dick contests, it's to share the experience of fishing
  4. Hey Kevin, nice catch!! The rest of you, although compared to some, I may be a 'Newbie' I'm just going to say one thing. Have you ever heard of a thing called Instagram? Daily I see 'spot burns' on Instagram and yet you think his one post on here is going to cause a flood of couch potatoes to a location most people would fish anyways if they had any knowledge of bass fishing.
  5. First bluefish on a fly. This was a few weeks back in GSB Long Island
  6. That's sucks Vinny and I hope you get the pliers back, people are savages and you can't trust most people nowadays. A week ago I was wading and had two drinks on the sand and turn around to find there gone, I know it's not pliers but to steal $3 worth of drinks shows just how low people will stoop
  7. Thanks for the update on beach status, was curious as I've been away for a week or so
  8. I don't own a bailless but have used one in the past, practice the technique of guiding the line into the reel with a bailed reel first before you invest to make sure that you are comfortable with the motion, don't want to invest in a Vanstaal to find out you despise the action of a bailless reel
  9. For night fishing there you need a permit issued by the office there. And as for the parking in "handicapped spots" thing, right next to fins there are a few spots that during the day are handicapped but they are converted to night time spots past 10pm until 6am. And don't worry, if any handicapped people decide to show up at those times, there are extra handicapped spots for them to park at aswell.
  10. Cold incoming water with some bait present, if your in shallows loaded with bait there gunna be hard to hook up with cause the competition of easy meals.
  11. I've seen a lot of people keep short fluke this season, they don't even waste time measuring it. They just cut the gills, throw it into a bucket and keep casting. Recently when I confronted a guy he just played stupid to not knowing the regulations and when I offered him a chart that I had in my bag he refused to take it. Lucky for me DEC stopped by about 20 mins later and ticketed the guy, who tried to say I pawned the fish on him saying it was legal size. These type of people deserve more then just a slap on the wrist with a fine because their ruining the populations and will do it again knowing they can probably pay off the fine selling enough shorts
  12. I'm nowhere near the level of others that I've fished with but am glad at the progress I've made the last year fishing bucktails and poppers. It's all due to a guy looking over at me and saying, "your doing it wrong, let me give you some tips". I've been steered in the wrong direction by that statement a few times but this time I listened, watched and asked questions. Soon enough I was onto stripers the size of never seen in person before. I'll never forget that night because he seriously improved my skills, and to this day I always carry that same bucktail in hopes to give it to the guy who said so little, but taught me so much
  13. Sand flee, I also agree with what your saying. If your bait chunking and can't hold your spot then you shouldn't be fishing in a crowded area, but if his lines were staying in place then he's doing it right
  14. Drewbob, I agree with you. Although I don't baitfish much I have similar issues with many people of all fishing sorts. Often when I'm in inlets or bay areas with faster currents someone stands not 10 ft from me who doesn't understand casting etiquette and others who cast from the sand right behind me while I'm wading and there lines actually hit me. However Drewbob wants to fish the inlets is his business, the issue is people who make our trips worthless by continuously crossing lines
