  1. AWESOME ! Just awesome Brian. Sandy and I get your FB feed but the pictures here on Stripers are always easier on my old eyes. Some day perhaps we will catch up with you and Sarah if we are so blessed. Until then your reports and pictures keep me hopeful. Al
  2. A joke on me. The wife used to complain about all my fishing gear. I thought I would fix her wagon and talked her into a two hour lesson with Bob Clouser at last weekends Fly Fishing and Wine Tasting Festival in Richmond VA. The Wine helped. She now is complaining that she needs room for her new EC 8wt, her new TFO 6wt, and wants a TFO 2/3wt for when we are in the mountains. She's retired I am still working and working and working.
  3. I just have to agree with Mike. Outstanding event at so many levels. One day maybe I hope too!!
  4. Wow, Brian. Some awesome fishing. 6 boats, 3 days and 150 fish. It can't get more exciting than that! Thank you for the pic's.
  5. Enjoyed it very much. Thanks HC. I hope to meet him this April at the VA Fly Fishing Festival.
  6. Merry Christmas, Happy and Blessed New Year, and Tight Lines in 2016 too Everyone! from Al and Sandy Wilson BFD, thank you for starting this thread.
  7. I can certainly do that. I will PM my contact info to you.
  8. Look at this we have a conversation going with good info being shared. I like the South river because of location. It is only 2 to 3 hours depending on traffic, plus my son's, In-laws live in Staunton. Which means we drive thru the area a lot. I have wanted to meet the guy's at SRFS but never get thru there during business hours. Their event will give me that opportunity. We fish the Nottoway River and James for smallies with the grandkids. I have always had good luck between Scottsville and Maidens for smallies on the James. Success on the Nottoway depends on Fort Picketts training schedule. The grandkids are tying their own streamers and flies now and want to learn, what I need to re-learn - fly fishing. I bought the four kids tickets to the Fly Fishing and Wine Festival so they can take the grandkids. I understand the TU summer camp folks will be there again this year to do the family fly fishing program. I was told they did a great job last year. Sandy would like to learn to cast and its been ages since I fly fished regularly we plan to take beginners classes together. The 23rd is our anniversary a little getaway to Waynesboro may be an easy sell. Al
  9. Being on the river is what attracted Sandy and I originally. It is just that family and jobs has gotten in the way the last two years. I was told that DOT is going to be doing bridge work along the South river the next couple of years, causing the move. I am very glad to hear the South River Fly Shop is also holding an event. I need all the help I can get! I have been away for too many years. Al
  10. dlaurend, The link posted below gives both wild trout and stocked areas. It takes a while to load. The state of Virginia posts their stocking schedule on line as well. Catching up with SMatrin and Capt. Rehab would probably be beneficial. They are right there near of some of the best river and stream fishing in the state. http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing/trout/area-maps/map2.pdf Al
  11. I just found out that the Virginia Fly Fishing and Wine Festival is moving this year to the Meadow Event Park, just north of Richmond along I 95. It will be Sat and Sun April 9 & 10. I have wanted to attend for the last couple of years but could not get away. This event the last 15 years has been on the banks of the South River in Waynesboro, VA. Any way it looks like fun and I thought I would share this info with you all. Oh and this year I have already bought my tickets. Al
  12. In any other state these two lakes would be considered oversize mud holes. Both have fountain type aerators in them. Both are within minutes of the State House and Governor's Mansion. I was thinking about drifting in the farthest wakes of the aerator. I have rods set up with both sinking and floating lines, so I should be able to see what works when I go out. Then I'll take the grandkids out there to learn. CaryGreene, The largest of these is Shields lake in Downtown Richmond. They rent paddle boats and I think still allow Kayaks and canoe. Dorey Lake where I will try my hand is much smaller it is posted for no watercraft including remote control watercraft. Tidewater, Thank you and the rest of the guys for the encouragement. I am going to tie some more of the little rainbow trout this week. I tied some scuds and nymph's last nite. I am thinking about trying the zebra midge also as flies down here don't die off until after the first freeze.
