  1. Yes I would agree with that, might be time to switch species, The Wachusett is a much shorter drive and everything should be feeding heavy there!
  2. I did a quick mission there Wednesday night, not so much as a bump. Didn't have much time so I didn't stick around for the outgoing but there was hardly any bait that was evident when I was there.
  3. At this point in my fishing season I would probably swim with the sharks to catch a few whoppers!
  4. Interesting thread, mostly because I am wondering how many fellow machinists are members of SOL? As i sit here trying to forget that I am at work machining Ferralium 255 which sucks. I'm going back to reading about fishing.
  5. Let's just say there are a lot of bite marks in my mother of pearl color sp's.
  6. Used to be one of my favorite places to fish, my old man used to train his hunting dogs in the woods there before it was damned up to become A1. Its true the weeds have taken over there, I am convinced it is because of all the housing that went in on the other side of the lake, everyone has to have their pretty, well fertilized lawns which all the nutrients from end up in Mill Pond. That being said when all else fails and if the bass are on, go weedless topwater. Or my old favorite for that place a 7.5 inch red shad colored culprit worm.
  7. Although it seems like you are looking for a 2 piece, I can tell you I have a Shimano Teramar inshore rod, 7' Heavy, medium action rated 1/2-2 oz.I use this rod wading and can and do throw a little of everything with it from unweighted slug-gos to heavier poppers. Good tip action and has enough strength to get a fish in easy enough. And for $100 the TFO inshore series rods are pretty good too. Not as much strength in the back end but definately works well throwing lighter stuff.
  8. Got my two 5 year old nephews started with a couple of short rod and reels from pflueger, just couldnt bring myself to buy a lightning mcqueen rod. But I will second the worms and sunfish suggestion. It cant get much easier to catch fish and to keep their attention. Short outings of a couple of hours work best, before they get bored, that will leave them wanting to go back again. One other thing that helped peak their interest was watching some fishing shows leading up to actually taking them. They get pretty excited seeing the bigs ones hauled in and adds to the excitement of actually going out and catching a fish.
  9. Contemplating this dilemma right now. Looks like tonight is going to be the warmest and least wind til Monday. Truly there is only one way to find out if its going to be good or not, and thats to go fish it! Could be epic, could get skunked.
  10. Plus one on getting the inflatable pfd, been thinking about it for a while, and with this weekends full moon high tides I am stopping at BPS on my way to the cape. Glad youre ok and thanks for sharing your story Paul, that story might save someone else!
  11. Call the guys from the finding big foot show, you could be on TV! Of course that might end up being a sasquatch spot burn. Better keep it on the down low.
  12. Wow thats amazing, I knew they went up river of course just never realized how far.. CT River is definately one of my favorite places to fish, gorgeous views, not a ton of boat traffic and great fishing. Might have to explore more sections I think.
  13. Never realized there were stripers in the River that far north. I have only fished from Barton's Cove north up to vermont etc. Might have to do some exploring in the southerly direction. Are these fish part of the migratory fish or the resident populations? Just curious.
  14. Hey Bob, I hit the rivers around Wachusett reservoir this weekend and found much the same, the levels dropped really fast in the last two weeks. It went from cold fast water to a quickly warming trickle in no time at all. No decent size trout to even see, small perch, sunfish and tiny brookies were all that bit my fly. Unfortunately a lot of the popular streams and rivers get absolutely pounded by people immediately after stocking and the fish dont even have a chance to spread out in the river before they are on the dinner plate. That being said even my less popular spots are not giving up what they were even a few weeks ago. Atleast the salt water action is heating up at just the right time.
  15. I've had some fun on the fly rod with some "football" shaped rainbows!
