  1. Serious question. Just got into togging more seriously this year. Is there some sort of trick to unhooking tog? I feel like Im cutting the line and leaving the hook in every other tog I catch. Their mouth is just so fatty I cant seem to get hooks out. I also catch them in my kayak which makes it a little more difficult. Anyone have a trick or tip to getting them off the hook?
  2. The water temp is over 55. Not yet time for resident fish. Unless you mean Hudson fish? Both migrations are still in the area. But with this cold front the Southern fish are about to take off. Some of the hudson fish should hang around until the herring come through though. Edit: water temp according to my fish finder on kayak was between 55 and 58 the last week. Not sure the official readings. This was also in the Kills fishing for blackfish. Possibly a degree or so difference from the lower bay
  3. Why is it absurd? Do you not believe a litterer deserves to pay that? It is just as enforceable as any other litter fine. Typically won't be caught, but once someone is caught I'm sure that fine will keep them from doing it again
  4. The couple of PB's I've ever dared to step on (should to shoulder fishing aint my thing) they had white crabs for sale on the boat. Is this not normal practice?
  5. For Stripers from the beach? Always plugs except for March or a little of April depending on how cold it has been. Waiting for the first fish to start moving in during that time period I'll use clams. By the time the fair weather/report guys get there I've moved on to plugs
  6. Ive had maybe 10 nights this fall where I could have caught 50+ fish if I didn't get bored of catching rats after the first 15-20. Now I am not talking about big fish. I'm talking fish 12 to 25 inches. But this fall there has been an incredible amount of fish under 35 inches around. Absolutely insane. 1 night a year where I could catch that many would normally be lucky. But this year? Probably 2 weeks straight I could have landed fish every cast or 2 from dusk till dawn.
  7. thought on this years migration.... strange weather leads to strange migrations. The amount of tiny fish has been incredible. Get tired of catching them. The amount of fish around SI for this time of year is also incredible, but that'll probably end in the next few days. IBSP went off the week of Christmas a few years ago. Who knows, could be another of those.
  8. True it is easier said then done. I found a good spot today with some structure blocking anything made of fiberglass from risking getting into it. Boulderfields can be hard to find though. Ive fished some pilings recently. Well moreso sunken piers then just pilings. Had a fair share of hits. Lots of snags though. Sunken wood criss crossing over eachother tends to be alot more sticky then rocks so it is annoying. Especially if youre not dropping and are actually casting. I think I found my dream spot today now that I think about it. No sticky bottom but lots of rocks. And no boats. And minimal ship wakes. Atleast compared to the rest of the general area.
  9. Got some big Tog today from the kayak.... gave up on stripers. Was literally catching 20 fish a night but all 12-20 inches. I'm not one to get bored of stripers but a month straight of nonstop rats does get a bit boring even on ultralight tackle. Also whats up everybody.... Been a long time since I logged in here
  10. man you really hate jetskis or something? Jetskis aren't getting outlawed soon....
  11. It is illegal to land with fish that are illegal in the state you are landing in... the fish aren't native to one state or another
  12. Tog are only inshore in the harbor during certain times of the year. Which coincides with the early part of the fall open season. Caught some big tog today in NY harbor... find a rocky spot boats cant reach. The boat guys will fish all the tog out of the area. Alot of rock spots are pretty small atleast where I launch
  13. Your best bet is to stop fishing when the fish are gone... thats what I do. Surf and kayak.
  14. If you got special permission to fish a pond, a quick way to get that permission revoked is post a video of you catching fish in said pond... cause there's gona be 30 guys there next week lol. Not sure if you got special permission or its just legal and no one knows. But just sayin.
