  1. I prefer my beach relatively unused, except for me of course. I am a surfer - "why can't i surf these waves that break so well at this one spot, and all the other spots are terrible in comparison. Why can't the fisherman fish elsewhere, like from a boat? theres fish everywhere. This surf spot is the best." I am a fisherman, "this stretch of beach is the best for fishing stripers so I should be able to have it to myself. Why can't that surfer those waves over there?" The arguements are both blind to each others point of view. I believe a first come first use basis, and both parties should respect it. And anyone that prefers a quite and unlucrative town just for there fishing preferences is selfish.
  2. Not a fish but escher certainly goes there... http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=escher+fish&FORM=HDRSC2
  3. I have my first snowboard a Burton Air 165 (2007). Its good for someone looking to buy there first board for cheap. It needs a tune up/edging. The edges are not sharp and a little rusty which will come off easily with a tune up. No bindings though. The board is relatively stiff but good for someone 6' tall. I've also got Burton Hail Boots 2008. Didn't ride them much maybe 5 times max. They are a men's size 9.5. 60$ for the two items, or 40 each seperate. Pick up only -westchester NY. Not exactly in season, but I simply don't want to move them around any more. I haven't used them in 3 years. 4. Has anyone ever noticed if full sized bunker are eaten head first or tail first, when they pull them out of the gut? This would help the myth of 'stripers eat their prey head on'...
  5. I have a Cortland 6 pc. 8/9wt. rd with slotted cloth and zippered hardcase. Bought it here two years ago. The 5th piece broke and I sent it back to Cortland and they replaced it no problem. It's in excellent condition except a tiny piece of cork that fell of at the top of the reel set. Pretty minimal, but can't say its mint haha. I'm looking to trade for a 9wt or a 10wt. This rod is awesome, esp. for getting around being it packs down so small, but looking for something on the heavier side for the windy conditions in the salt. I think it would be great for steelhead. Just want to put feelers out and see if anyones interested, i can put up pictures if desired. Thanks much, BC
  6. still up? Any interested in a trade? I have a cortland 6pc. 8/9 wt 9'6" rod in excellent condition I find it a little on the light size for windy conditions I tend to be in, and I'm looking for something just like that.
  7. yeah c'mon now.. .1st of all CFLs remain cool even after being on for hours - even though he could have simply dropped it - it adds a level of suspicion to the story. 2nd of all i've never read side effects of mercury poisoning as 'flesh eating bacteria' LEDs are great. I suggest you all wait 5 years when the price comes down due to technological leaps and bounds...
  8. should it theoretically be increasing until the new moon this weekend?
  9. Gilbey, thats exactly what I need to do. I was ready to buy a new spinning setup and I said why? I have a good FF setup but never use it! Time to put time in and out fish my friends =p Gadabout, Im stationed out of Rye, NY so i fish the western sound most of the time. I take trips up to CT/RI boarder a few times a year - fishing surf and outflows. I visit my moms in LBI once or twice a year and fish the surf there as well. I went to school in CT (Fairfield) and I wish i picked up FF back then. Public beach is great to scope out maps and find a way to the water, NY is a little tougher. My friend has a 17' Whaler but I feel FF'ing is too cumbersome when there are more than 2 people on the boat. Although next time out its no mercy! Esp. when we get beat on shrimp patterns where no one is catching.
  10. Perfect thread choice since I just read in 'Striper Moon' that presentation trumps 'the right fly'. This book is awesome. Thanks for the heads up. I actually have some chartrouse/white clousers I found between now and then. Just made a fly box to hold em all (which i'll post later) so I figured I'd lay them all out and decide what I'll be bringing to rhode island this weekend. Tight lines everyone, hopefully me too! BC
  11. Getting geared up for the stripers, blues and fluke this spring/summer/fall. This is the range of flies I'm working with. I'd appreciate any comments on what I may be missing, what ones may look like garbage, and what ones are sure winners. I've had a saltwater fly setup for 3 years now and havent caught a striper. I haven't tried much, reverting to spinning reel often, but this year I've decided to make it a mission and dedicate my time strictly to FF!
  12. Just bought the book Striper Moon - I can't wait for it to arrive
