  3. Good morning. I'm looking for rod recommendations to pair with a Shimano Tekota 700LC. I'm most likely going to put 50lb braid on the reel and will be using it troll for Stripers around the Vineyard and the islands - Unbrella Rigs and Mojos. Would prefer to order said rod online. Recommendations on trolling/tackle/etc. are appreciated as I'm new to this type of fishing.
  4. Looking at rod types, it looks like most folks are recommending 7' Medium Heavy rods with fast action for the type of fishing that I'm looking to do. Any insights?

  6. SeaFlat, would you mind linking me what you purchased? I'm seeing a bunch of different variations of the 5500's. Thanks.
  7. First off, thank you in advance for offering your suggestions. There is another thread below mine, but I did not want to hijack it. My Uncle recently purchase a boat and has a mooring in Falmouth Harbor. We typically leave the harbor and find 40-60 feet of water and drop squid on the bottom and pull up a mixed bag of seabass, porgy, and fluke. My Newell 220 (3.6:1) and BA-Seeker rod that I use for blackfish in the Long Island Sound works just fine (although it's bit on the heavier side - I would prefer something lighter). My uncle has a $19.99 Walmart special - he needs an upgrade. I'm looking for two types of rod/reel recommendations and associated tackle recommendations. The first one is for bottom fishing. The second one is for jigging (I've never jigged with any success). Both should use braided line and be built to last (I'd rather spend $ on quality than have to replace tackle). Any other tackle recommendations are appreciated.

  9. With winds coming from the SSE at 12 mph in the morning and fading into winds coming from ESE at 7 mph in the evening, what are my chances of going out?
  10. Hey everybody. I'm heading up this weekend (Friday-Sunday) and plan on doing some bottom fishing off the lower cape. With the storm coming, I hope the boat will go out on Saturday morning, but who knows. Anyway, just wanted to get an idea as to how the fishing has been and any baits/techniques that have been working well. I usually just use squid with two hooks and a weight, nothing fancy. Best, Tim
  11. A buddy of mine just invited me up to his lake house on Seymour Lake, Vermont. We will have canoe access. I am usually a creature of the salt, so I'm seeking any pointers you all can provide. I have an inshore saltwater rod/reel that may be a bit heavier than I'd like, but could work for a weekend. Rod - 7' MH Rated 12-20lbs. Reel - Quantum Catalyst PI with 15lb fireline. Any recommendations on lures?
  12. I'll give you a plug if you retire from posting on this website. . .just PM me your address. In fact, I think we may even be able to take up a collection on your behalf.
