  1. I was gonna say the same thing- sure looks like Al.
  2. I've never used the wood hardener on cork, but it has worked great for me on wood. It soaks into the fibers, and then hardens . I bet it would soak into the porous cork, and harden it right up. Might make it too hard, however, as one of the benefits of cork is that it has some texture and grip to it. You could easily put it in a small section and see what it does. Your existing cork definitely shouldn't compress as much yours is showing. Probably just a bad batch of cork handles ...
  3. What about the leather sheaths used for gardening pruners ? Generally cost 10 - 20 dollars and are tough leather. I've been using one on a boat for some time now and holds the pliers perfectly. Not tried for the surf , however....
  4. Haven't heard about this before.... does the public get to sample and vote on the entries ? Do you have an address for the event ?
  5. Wow- the Lincolns are starting to run...A little early this year. Won't be long before the bigger bills start arriving....
  6. You beat me to it ! Saw the same bird on the coffee run this morning. He/she is a week later than last year.
  7. Thanks for the info. As many times as I have driven by this intersection, I never really stopped to see the fish ladder. Stopped by a couple days ago and took a good look. There were fish in the pool. and the water was flowing very hard after all these rains we have had. I can't believe they don't have a fence, or concrete bumpers , between the parking area and the drop off to the water. Especially if there is a brewery there ! If someone had a few too many, and backed out of the parking space without looking, they could easily end up over the edge pretty easy.
  8. Nice goal for me would be a 20 from the surf, and a 40 from the boat.
  9. Right on schedule- maybe even a few days early. I thought I saw a single at Silver Spring earlier this week, but wasn't paying enough attention to confirm, but this morning on the coffee run, I definitely saw the pair at the Silver Spring nest tower. A friend who lives about half way up on the pond also told me they had seen an osprey this week. Start getting your gear cleaned and your hooks sharpened !
  10. +1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's a pic that you and she will value forever !
  11. I drove by this morning; some new signs up since the last time i was there. Looks like they reduced some parking spots on the right hand side ( land ) by making it no parking, but in the wider area on the right nearer the entrance, they are indicating diagonal parking only. You can still park the whole distance on the water side . I assume this plan was to achieve better traffic flow . If you are parking facing the water, in most cases, you will now be able to back up without having a row of parked cars behind you. The big boulders in the middle of the road are still there, but I assume that's to keep the incoming traffic on the right coming in, and the outgoing traffic on the right going out. Seems like a net reduction in overall potential parking spaces, but maybe a better traffic flow.
  12. I was there this morning, and there were a few guys that seemed to be checking out the area in yellow . I couldn't tell if they were DEM or not....
  13. I don't think it's considered spotburning if you are talking about a good place to have sex, but we may need a technical ruling on this....
  14. Sorry guys, I've been a lazy ass this year so far. I saw the osprey at Silver Spring some time last week and didn't post the notification. It may have been the 23/24 , so pretty close to last year. There's also one at the next nest site up the road ( N ) on route 1. I'm always amazed that they all seem to show within a few days of each other, so I'm not sure if they all migrate together, or go solo. I don't think I've ever heard about anyone seeing a giant flock of osprey flying north, but maybe they do....
  15. Always interesting to experiment and modify the recipe to " make it your own " , but in this case, I think you would be more than satisfied if you try the "original " recipe . It's very simple, with less steps, and I guarantee it will be one of your family favorites once you try it. Just about foolproof, too, with the exception of cooking time. If you don't cook it long enough, it won't be fall apart tender .
