  1. Could be lack of resistance from a needle doesn't pack the line as tightly as other lures? Something like a metal lip has more drag and the pull will wind the line tighter. Maybe add some tension with your fingers every couple of casts.
  2. I never used the tag last year, but do my best to keep the log from May 15 on. Marks on the rod and an estimate is better than nothing. I didn't have many 50+ fish days like some people....
  3. That's Staten Island, not Sandy Hook.
  4. Once in NJ. Been asked for SW license in DE and VA, once each. Better resources would be spent busting the garbage bag poachers in the bay. Registration was federally mandated, so Jersey did better than a lot of states and government's got all your info anyway. You want a FW license, you basically get the same form to fill out.
  5. Check your bearings. If they don't spin, you probably need to replace. I had to get the bearing I needed on eBay.
  6. When you get a new one, check out that video
  7. Only fished with him once, but through his networking, met a lot of great people. May he rest in peace.
  8. Lol that's what I was saying. Bass bite sucked, one 20" in 7 hours, so I was actually hoping to get another chance. Saw the same yesterday. Spanish macs jumping 40' off the beach right before sunrise, then a school of rays blew through the bait. Crazy how fast the rays were.
  9. Got a ray on bugs this morning. Thought it was a nice bass until I saw it upside down in the breaker and thought I might land it. Then I think it realized it was hooked and headed east and the leader popped. Not sure if they were chasing bait or bugs, but saw some surfing up the waves in the wash.
  10. Kept a bass in June. Two fleas that I used and a couple calicos. One of the fleas was still kicking a couple hours later. IMG_0946.mov
  11. You might have better luck posting in Delaware regional forum or fly fishing forum. Good luck!
  12. Yeah I've lost a few on 12#. I usually go with 20#, I think the leader takes some abuse rubbing in the sand all the time.
  13. Go to On the Water and article is Summer bass on bugs. And no 8# is a little light especially the the water gets warm. If you get a good sized fish you don't want to wear it out too much.
  14. Might be the shallow water and they're usually hooked close where there's lots of backwash to help them run. I've had smaller ones fight harder in whitewater than some slot size in calmer spots.
