  1. FYI NOAA water temps in Newport are located in Newport Harbor. The beach/ocean side waters are in Newport are cooler. that is where i would fish if I were down in Newport
  2. thanks for the update Awesome John. I look forward to fishing this reel!
  3. Which one are you fishing? 3/4oz or 1.5oz? Maybe try the smaller one if you are using the bigger one.
  4. Yes, the NS is the new one with plastic insert. Excellent info about the VS foot. That is good to know.
  5. Can anybody tell me what the difference is? Is the NS type seat better quality or just lower profile and slightly lighter? Anybody have experience building with both? Thanks!
  6. when you get enough post (25??), you can use the Private Message function on this site. I also moved to North Providence a few years back and went through exactly what you are going through. Hit me up on the PM when you have enough post.
  7. edit: My bad...I thought the original poster must post price or offer. withdrawing offer.
  8. How short is the butt section on some of these ZENAQ rods? Difficult to find this info. But the butts look very short...but difficult to know for sure from the photos. The overall proportions of the reel seat down look different then the rods that we use.
  9. LOL...Last time I will around here The little access plate on the bottom of the Branzino and Certate is not watertight. I'm not swimming with that reel...period. But like I said, I will fish Branzino in MOST circumstances over a VS150 any day of the week and twice on Sunday. It is a fun reel to fish with. Go to YouTube and watch Italian guys land a sunfish with a Branzino! Seriously...accidentally snagged sunfish...and landed it (from a boat I might add)
  10. Yes, that is the 1st hit that comes up in Google search. I do believe that the consensus is that the owner of that reel is either A) a dimwit, or B) employed by Shimano. hehe But the point remains the same. High end Japanese reels ARE NOT intended for wading and swimming, whereas VS and ZB are intended for that purpose. Like my dad use to say; "You must have the right tool for the right job". Maybe the new Stella will work just fine underwater and not be bothered by sand in the rotor etc...but the burden of proof is on the Stella crowd to DEMONSTRATE it's superiority in these conditions. Not the other way around.
  11. No Woody...I'm not trying to pick a fight. I just get the feeling that two totally different type of fishermen are arguing that there gear is better...but they do not do the same type of fishing. I'll tell you what....I will take my MORETHAN Branzino over a VS150 in nearly any fishing circumstance EXCEPT wading/swimming. Why would I not take my MORETHAN out wading you ask? Because it is a darn boat reel...that is why!!!!
  12. I am a big fan of the Japanese tackle. Very nice stuff. I'm quite a 'Japanese tackle Ho' myself. I can't get enough of it. But I will tell you what...I'm not going swimming with my MORETHAN Branzino or my Saltiga Z to get to the honey hole on that submerged rock. That is VS and ZB territory. Do you take your Stella swimming/wading or are you a boat guy? Just curious...we all know Stalla is a fine reel. But do you really swim with it amoungst the rocks...in sandy white water? Or just cast off a sandy beach on occasion between boat trips? Just curious.
  13. FYI I find that the "L" works a pencil fairly well for a graphite stick. Not as well as a glass rod...but pretty darn well. I fish 2-3oz pencils mostly with the 132 1L and not much heavier.
  14. Great deal. It looks incredible on that cruiser
