  1. I second Andy at ASC. He is always looking out for your best interest, at his expense. He'll even try to talk you out of doing unnecessary repairs.
  2. Great piece of advice. I was struggling with how to get the job done right without having to pay for it again. I am going to give him a choice to either agree to the above terms, or I'll take him to court and get him fired from Homies. I'll let him decide his fate. The old skylight had to be replaced b/c it was leaking badly. It wasn't a Velux. One roofer told me that they stopped making that particular brand b/c of poor manufacturing/quality controls issues. Also, the old skylight was venting. Somewhere along the line, the mechanism that aides in cranking the skylight open broke. I figure it was worth a couple hundred bucks just to replace the whole thing. Little did I know what I was getting in to.
  3. Azek routs well. I had some fluted boards that boxed in 2 exterior pillars. Well, the old boards were pine and rotted. Someone suggested that I could flute my own boards using Azek boards and a plunged router. He made me a demo piece out of scrap Azek. It looked amazing. I went out and bought a plunge router and fence, Azek boards, and did the job myself. Although I am relatively handy, I had never routed before. The job could not have been any easier. The router cut through the Azek like butter.
  4. Yes, those are indeed shingles. I have 2 layers of shingles on my roof.
  5. I've attached some photos to amuse contributers to my thread.....
  6. I have a better card to pull. He works at a home improvement center and solicited my business while he was working - strictly against store policy. He would get fired immediately if I made a complaint. Instead of arguing with me over the matter, he should be bending over backwards to make me happy. I am shocked that someone is willing to risk their job over something like this - especially in this economy.
  7. Yes! In both bottom corners, and some light in the middle as well. Like I said, this guys made it seem that this is normal.
  8. Well, I spoke to my roofer today. As you can imagine, he was trying to defend the work that was done. He tried to convince me that that there is always going to be a draft and that seeing light underneath the flashing wasn't unusual. He said the only thing that matters is that the skylight hasn't leaked. (keep in mind that I just had the job done 1 month ago). He suggested that I seal the skylight from the inside. He even got "insulted" when I challenged him and questioned the job. Heck, he didn't even show up at the job site. He had 2 day laborers who didn't speak a stitch of English do the work. There is absolutely no question that the job wasn't done properly. I thank every one for their input. Even local roofing supply companies and Velux, the skylight manufacturer, said the job was f'd up. I know for a fact the he cut several other corners too, albeit minor. We ended our conversation in a heated argument. He doesn't realize that he is dealing with a type A personality. He reluctantly agreed to come by next week and fix the problem. I am going to be on the roof with him to make sure everything is going to be done properly. Once again, thanks for the input. And I hope everyone has a happy New Year!
