Brian
Okay, what's your favorite father-son song? I'm partial to Cats in the Cradle, but there's another '70's folk style father-son song that's slipping my mind now that I like. A whiter shade of pale.... Etc... and so on and so forth. Is that the one you are thinking of? Wishin' I was Fishin'
Brian
No, that's not it; the one I'm thinking of sounds more Gordon Lightfoot's style. A whiter shade of pale....
Patrick9915
Coward of the County is a good one. This may be obvious, but Cat Steven's Father and Son. I've misplaced my Cat Stevens's greatest hits CD and that's really bugging me as to where I put it. There are a few tracks I want from him. TatonkaJames
Cat Stevens It's not time to make a change, Just relax, take it easy. You're still young, that's your fault, There's so much you have to know. Find a girl, settle down, If you want you can marry. Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy. I was once like you are now, and I know that it's not easy, To be calm when you've found something going on. But take your time, think a lot, Why, think of everything you've got. For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not. Son How can I try to explain, when I do he turns away again. It's always been the same, same old story. From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen. Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away. I know I have to go. Father It's not time to make a change, Just sit down, take it slowly. You're still young, that's your fault, There's so much you have to go through. Find a girl, settle down, if you want you can marry. Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy. (Son-- Away Away Away, I know I have to Make this decision alone - no) Son All the times that I cried, keeping all the things I knew inside, It's hard, but it's harder to ignore it. If they were right, I'd agree, but it's them They know not me. Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away. I know I have to go. Henry Fishinger
Living Years is a good one Joe, chokes me up every time... Every generation Blames the one before And all of their frustrations Come beating on your door I know that I'm a prisoner To all my Father held so dear I know that I'm a hostage To all his hopes and fears I just wish I could have told him in the living years Crumpled bits of paper Filled with imperfect thought Stilted conversations I'm afraid that's all we've got You say you just don't see it He says it's perfect sense You just can't get agreement In this present tense We all talk a different language Talking in defence Say it loud, say it clear You can listen as well as you hear It's too late when we die To admit we don't see eye to eye So we open up a quarrel Between the present and the past We only sacrifice the future It's the bitterness that lasts So Don't yield to the fortunes You sometimes see as fate It may have a new perspective On a different day And if you don't give up, and don't give in You may just be O.K. Say it loud, say it clear You can listen as well as you hear It's too late when we die To admit we don't see eye to eye I wasn't there that morning When my Father passed away I didn't get to tell him All the things I had to say I think I caught his spirit Later that same year I'm sure I heard his echo In my baby's new born tears I just wish I could have told him in the living years Say it loud, say it clear You can listen as well as you hear It's too late when we die To admit we don't see eye to eye
Henry Fishinger
Papa Was a Rollin Stone Temptations It was the 3rd of september, a day I'll always remember, 'Cause that was the day, that my daddy died. I never got a chance to see him, never heard nothin' but bad things about him. Momma I'm depending on you to tell me the truth, Momma looked into my eyes and said, son, Papa was a rolling stone, wherever he laid his hat was his home, and when he died, all he left us was alone. Hey Momma, i heard people say papa wasn't much on thinkin' spent most of his time chasin' women and drinking I heard papa call himself a jack of trades, tell me is that what sent papa to an early grave. Folks said papa would beg, borrow, steal to pay his bills.
