Best kingfish year ever this year, though a few exits south of where you are asking about. My son brought in a bunch of nice ones, and most were over 13" and one was 15+. Getting to be a respectable kingfish imo. He uses a very nontraditional kingfish rig, but I cant argue with results: 6' medium/fast freshwater rod (his bas rod), 6lb fireline, 14lb fluoro leader to a 1/2oz acme kastmaster. Treble hook removed, replaced with single siwash. Gulp mullet on the kastmaster. On a dropper about 14" up he has what I think is a #2 hook (taken from a spot rig) baited with a small piece of gulp bloodworm. Consistently outfishes the typical bottom kingfish rigs. Hammerz
You guys ever get them at night? I haven't fished all summer, I was going to toss some leftover shrimp tonight, have a feeling it's going to be a skate/dog fish fest.

Firm, Supple, perky, droopy, different shape and sizes. Oh what was it that we were talking about? Oh king fish. Never had one at night. Once the sun goes down, doggies and skate dominate the surf. Sudsy
True, there is always the scenery I've done 95% of my kingfishing at night, never had a doggie or skate issue (not that I do it more than a handful of times a year) I just wanta play everyday despite small nagging injuries -- and go home to a woman who appreciates how full of crap I truly am. ~ Crash Davis Social Distancing since 1962
