July 2018 Fishing Reports

215 posts in this topic

Found a few more out there this morning in the low water.  Not much wave action right now and the water is gin clear.  Terns still doing a lot of picking on small bait, which seems to be keeping the 21 inch fish around.  Had a few swirl early on.  Picked up 3 on the popper and 1 on the bugs, all stamped out of the same 21 inch mold.  Missed 3 or 4 others with the popper and one with the bugs, so was a fun outing.  Let's see what the morning brings.

They're working just north of Normandy making their way south

They will make it lovely like they did in Mantoloking.

That wave action looks absolutely terrible.

Seaside park does not need replenishment nor does Berkeley. Idiots.

Not a fishing report exactly, but a buddy of mine was at a beach in Southern moco over the weekend and said there was a bunch of 30"+ bass swimming around in the trough right at the lip. So they're still out there, just have to find them.

Only had one shot a a fish this morning with a blowup on the popper, never got the hook.  Had a couple of fluke hold onto the tail of the plastic, but that was it.  Nothing using the bugs either.  Dead low water with some nice holes and out flows, but just not much happening.  Lots of bugs in the wash and even saw a few rain fish moving around.  Happy 4th everybody!

How far south do they intend to come?

Sounds like it will screw up the park.

Hopefully the currents running north will keep the crap out.  The past few years when they were doing LBI really screwed the park up.  Will the pocket ever recover?

Getting a little surf kicking up again this morning along with the water warming.  Found 3 and lost one with 2 back to midget size.  Small ones went for the plastic and the others were after the popper.  Couldn't get a touch with the bugs even in some nice moving water.  Bugs were everywhere in the spots I fished, so may be they are getting their fill and want something else.  More small bait in the wash line, which was nice to see.  Guess it won't be too long before the snapper make an appearance.  Nice sunrise today.

Got out on Tuesday (ocean county)  Landed a few triggerfish before dark. Decided to drift some eels after dark from the yak. Marked a few nice fish on the finder but the only takes were from 15" - 25" stripers. Ran out of eels quickly.

In the back OC. Drifted that same hole from the other day hard, picked up 3 quickly. Drift died and we bounced around a little, and wound up casting bucktails into a channel and working them back slowly. Got our 3 man limit up to 21" in about 4 hours
