Carp Rod

5 posts in this topic

I have a 12’ carp rod. Going to be putting a long casting reel on it, so I can hit this main channel of water I’m fishing. Anyone use a 12’ or shorter carp rod on catfish? Just wondering if it can handle a decent size blue or flathead.

Typically, you fight carp on lighter drags, catfish typically need to be fought with heavier drags due to their inclination to seek heavy cover (this is especially true of flathead catfish).

Blues do tend to stay in open water more then the other big two catfish species.

Keep these points in mind.

The Cabela's Predator rods were very popular with catfish anglers, carp rods all. Carp can be a pretty big fish, 40 to 60 lbs. and dogged fighters like cats. Hook size dictated my drag setting and rod selection.
