fishoninct
With the opening of the season this weekend, I thought I’d drift some squid. Any fluke to target yet??? Never fished them this early.
Albie17
Each year I run into a surge of sea robins before getting on the fluke bite. Could be that I fish near bays in waters no deeper than 20'.
fishoninct
Not in yet, neither was anything else. Did see two guys catching and tagging blackfish on crabs at a will known spot in the mid sound area.
Jshannon
Been out shore fishing 4 times so far and nothing was biting for me or anybody around me. And I mean NOTHING!

writefish1
A couple quick drifts this afternoon before squalls blew me back in, nothing but robins and a snagged spider crab. But with robin #1, skunk off the boat for the season. I'll take it. This was east of Greenwich and west of Southport on the CT side. Didn't trust the the weather to ride across. CedarWind
Caught 5 sea robbins over a 2 hr period yesterday. At one point, I was pulling in one and 7 others swam in along with it. They seem particularly fiesty/thrashy! Edited May 22, 2018 by CedarWind

Albie17
Somehow a 12" fluke got past the sea robins two days ago. I stopped counting at 20 sea robins on that trip.
FlukeOff
First trip out yesterday to a couple reefs east of New Haven. Must have caught 50 robins. Not a fluke to be seen. Also got some small sea bass but nothing close to a keeper. The trip was salvaged when we jigged up a couple 30" stripers. Still a great first trip out. Hopefully a few 80 degree days get things going. This ground is not the rock I thought it to be.....

toight_like_a_tiger
How have people been doing since the month turned? I got out Saturday. caught a lot of shorts in the 14-18" range without putting in much time targeting them. Hope to put some hours in later this week. Fish shallower than you think you should!!! I fished around there with 2 buddies and we caught 2 shorts. I have spent a good amount of hours fluking and for me, it has been really slow, my go to spots are not producing yet.
