fishfinder401
I'm about to build a pair of rods for an avet sx, and sxj, i know the sx has a slightly larger foot, so would the size 18 seat fit the sx, or would i have to go larger?
Belmo
I'd be surprised if an 18 wouldn't work. But if you're not sure, either order both, or call whoever you're buying from and ask. They will know. Edited April 6, 2018 by Belmo Terri Mae does not approve this message, but screw him. BigNevadaBob
An 18 didn't work for me, either side of the foot only went under the hood about 1/8" - 1/4" and would pop out if I tried to tighten it down.

Should I go for a 20 then? And wish the 18 worked since the blank is only like .45-.5 where the seat will be Edited April 6, 2018 by fishfinder401

fishfinder401
or would it fit better in a spinning reel seat? having a trigger on the rod isnt completely necessary
MakoMike
IMHO, go big. Its much easier to shim reel into a too big seat that to make a reel fit into a too small seat. ====Mako Mike====Makomania SportfishingPt. Judith, RI

That may be my only real option, my worry though is it is going to be out of place and uncomfortable on a thin tuna cord handle

spoonplugger1
If you like and can palm the reel, than a trigger seat can be comfortable and an option, otherwise I find the trigger to be in the way.
Fish4Fun
Are you talking about a regular pipe seat? If so, I'm sure that you have an 18 on a rod that you own already -it is the standard default size on most FW rods. You can check it yourself. secjurny
I would go with the 20......but Avet sells 3 different reel bases for those reels Capt Harry
