I want him to order the unit first without factoring in the price of the install or he will want to get a 4” screen

im assuming a bracket and install by a boat yard would run $200 or so?

Depends on what you have to.

If bracket mounted....really, bust out the dewalt.

Harder part is running the ducer wire, and mounting of the ducer.

I hate transom mount tranducers.  For a variety of reasons.  I mentioned it above, you will have much better 'vision'...particularly at speed, with a tilted element transducer.  This means boring a 2 1/4 or so inch hole in the hull.  No big deal, I did mine on my own.

Again, none of this is rocket science.

Ok seems straightforward , thanks !

is anyone creating custom sonar maps? I have navionics on my iphone and the back bay detail is either non existant or pretty weak. I’d love to be able to save the sonar maps (created as you drive around) as an overlay.

I am in the same boat right now. I am looking for a new unit that can do all of those awesome things, but I don't know which unit to go with. I do know I want something that can find bottom structure well.

I ended going with the Humminbird Helix 7 G2N SI. It has everything I want, including creating custom mapping as you fish, and can network with another unit. The only thing it doesn't have is touch screen, but I figured splash on the screen might be an issue.

If you can fit a 9", they have a MEGA version, which provides even more superior side-scan.
