hookmeup
We catch thousands of stripers each year on soft plastics on unpainted jig heads or metals. The action and color of the lures are what seem to matter.

bunker86
And none of any of this can be proven beyond the shadow of a doubt. That beautiful pencil Buckscorider posted. It’s a pencil. Spends the majority of the time out of the water, or at least the water line. Those big eyes did their job. And it’s way to pretty to have some gorilla blue shred it. LOL Hopefully we will see gorilla blues again in the surf.

Fergal
I'm late here - it's going to take a lot of convincing to get me to think that they matter - 99% of my fishing is done at night. Then, throw in some wave action/white water and a little murk and it's even less likely. ASMFC - Destroying public resources and fisheries one stock at a time since 1942. SkullHooker
I'd say that action, profile, and flash are the most important. Largemouth bass and snook are ambush predators, and do not overanalyze their prey. Clear water fish might inspect a little closer, like snapper bite better when the hook is buried. Head is most stable /less movement and sudden change of direction/ part of running away prey to target . Predator swallow prey from head ..... Why many fish have fake eyes on tail side ? Not necessarily, fish that bite/chop will attack from the rear, think bluefish. Fish that 'grab' their prey will attack more from the front, like stripers. Buckscorider
Sounds like its settled. I plan to order a custom diver from Scabelly's and I'm going to tell him I want it "blind". No peepers. Crushed barbs save fish, keep that rod bent!

l.i.fish.in.vt
if you think that eyes matter than buy plugs and other lures that have eyes.i don't put eyes on most of the plugs i build for myself, and most of my plastic plugs i repaint and the eyes are hidden by paint,i have total confidence that if there are fish to be caught and people are catching fish my eyeless plugs will catch as many if not more than others
