are you referring to putting 33s on xterras?  On the 2nd gen the biggest you can go without any lift is a 285/75/16 (roughly 32.6") and with that you will still have to heat and remold the splash guards. 285s on a stock xterra looks pretty goofy.

 

There's a difference between a body lift and a suspension lift. A body lift puts spacers between the frame and body and is IMO pretty janky.

Yeah, they really need to make the wheel wells larger for a 285 to fit easily. They got smaller over the years.
