If you want to say why thats cool too. It doesnt matter if you fish offshore or inshorewhatever floats your boat. If just one then130 tiagra with Chatham special rod built by CMS. That being said it is impossible to have one do it all.
CrashHard23
My pick would be a ODM nex1 9ft with a vr50.
albacized
When are those VR50 reels going to be available in bigger numbers...right now, they're just trickling out to customers so only a few have them so far. I'm not sure if I plan on buying one just yet, but would certainly like a chance to play with one in a store soon

I kick myself constantly for selling my estuary. Great rod the human race has proved darwins theory of evolution wrong. we let the dumb survive. ChrisO
Id lean toward the Calcutta 300D I picked up last year on an 8 ft loomis 1-3. works well in many scenarios.
Jeddore
I just got the Saragosa 6k and Mojo 9' 1 - 4 for my plugging setup to cast all day for Christmas. Weighs 10.6 ounces less than my current setup which is slammer III 6500 and mojo 10'6 3/4 - 4.
relentless pursuit
For Plugging/Bucktailing,Saragosa 6000 spooled with 14lb fireline paired with 10’ Star Stellar Lite rod rated 2-5oz. Very lightweight, not overpowering for schoolies and cocktails and can handle the monsters too.But i baitfish a whole lot and do not chunk or liveline with spinning, for that a Newell G229/G235 spooled with 30lb MoMoi,11’ Star Stellar Lite med/heavy. Noodles
If I had only 1 rod and reel I would stick to a light inshore/ bass setup. Probably a steez sv tw and whatever high end 7ft rod rated for say 1/4-3/4.
GoneCoastal
My go to right now is a Lami green SS I201m with a slammer 3 5500. Killer jig stick and does a Polaris popper pretty good too. I wish I would have bought 2 blanks.

Surfratiam
For the majority of 2017 I used a custom built ODM NXG-104 with a VSX150 Really like the combo for a good range of plugs, light and sensitive. Use the ODM NXG-116 for when I reach for a bigger rod, with VSX 200.
Trialesquire
The question: One rod, one reel. What’s your pick? Some answer the question as if it asked for one rod, one reel for plugging. Or for surf. Or for canal. These responses fail to answer the question. My pick: 9’6” Suzuki with VS150. flyangler
Custom Century Stealth S2-1326 11’ w VS VR125 bail-less and 20# 832 or Dawia J-8. Sub Saragossa 6000 w 30# if throwing bigger plugs to bigger fish. “No nation in history has survived once its borders were destroyed, once its citizenship was rendered no different from mere residence, and once its neighbors with impunity undermined its sovereignty.” - Victor Davis Hanson
striperblues
I only boat fish so fly equipment aside, it would be what I use when I am plugging or throwing soft plastics to big striped bass, Loomis Pro Green Heavy fast action rod... has a soft tip and a hell of a backbone paired with my VS150.
