Once Bitten

Miss Cellania Sunday, September 25, 2016 at 10:00 PM

Edward Grant of Middletown, New Jersey, caught this fish Sunday in Raritan Bay. It’s a fluke, in more ways than one. It appears that something, possibly a bluefish or shark, had taken a bite out of the fish. The fluke's massive injury was completely healed.

"We were very shocked," Grant said, adding, "We used a few other words, too."

Grant tossed the 18.5 inch fluke back into the bay, deciding it had been through enough already and deserved to live.

"I felt bad for it," he said.

And it is on the stomach side of the fish that's crazy.

That is what I was just thinking, it must have missed the stomach area or else I don't believe it would have lived.

That's pretty neat. I can only surmise that it was bitten while very young and as it grew bigger the bite size grew with it. I just can't see a fish that size lose that much of its body and survive, especially belly side. Lucky.

Supposedly the same guy caught it this year in the same area and since it was over 19" this year, the arsehole kept it.

Read it on a Facebook reports page, seems far fetched that the same guy could catch the same fish, but who knows. If he indeed caught it and kept it, total dick move.  Wouldn't put it past the googans running loose in the NY/NJ area.

Is fluke out of season in NJ?

That picture was from last year. I heard he caught in in August again this year.
